So I asked a question on the 11th in the welcome center that nobody has answered yet. What is the difference between an open comb and closed comb razor besides the teeth? Is one more aggressive, and is an open comb razor a good idea for someone with sensitive skin? Any help would be appreciated and please feel free to answer on "hello TSD" in the welcome center so that I don't mess up your fine thread. Thank you

 

All else being equal an open comb provides less protection than a safety bar but all else is never equal, thus the answer is no, one can't say that you should shave with a safety bar Ikon Tech instead of PAA double open comb, as their respective aggressive and mild tendencies have very little to do with closed comb/open comb, and everything to do with exposure and gap. There's no reason someone with sensitive skin couldn't enjoy an open comb razor, they come in all flavors.

Pre 1939 Gillette open comb razors tend to be more aggressive than close comb post war razors but the comb/bar isn't the critical factor in what makes an Old Type feel trickier than a Slim Twist it's exposure.
