Open Comb Central - The Place With Real Teeth (No R41, Hybrid or Closed Combs)

Good morning Doug. For me on DE blades this truly amazing. I am usually 3 shaves and out on DE blades. I replaced the knots in several brushes for Mark and he sent me two of these blades as a thank you. So I had to give them try. Thank you for the kind words and I hope you have a great day as well.

 

New Omega brush(antique store find), very soft! I haven't been able to get a really good lather with Tabac.... And the NEW LC is a little rough, but overall good results.

Excellent three pass shave with a bit of a clean up around my chin. The shave soap The Black Pearl is reminiscent of exotic spice cargos of yore this mysterious fragrance sets sail with fresh, herbal top notes over soft floras and a medley of spices. Accented with a smoky depth of vetiver, myrrh and wood grass. Excellent soap.

This makes 19 shaves in with the vintage Personna 74. I am still managing to get a decent shave but it is not nearly as close. I know some manage 28-30 shaves so I will keep going. Reef Point is a soap that does not get much attention but I find it to have top notch performance. The soap is easy to whip into a rich slick lather. I truly enjoy the scent of Dragon's Blood. I finished off the shave with a splash of Fine Platinum. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

I am not sure I will get as many as you did. I hope to nurse it through 21 shaves to make it an even 3 weeks.

Another good 3 pass shave this morning. With 20 shaves in on the blade, I can tell the performance has declined. At this point I plan on limping through tomorrow so that I will have a full 3 weeks on the blade. As usual the Route 66 Twisted Tweed was easy to whip into a rich slick lather. I finished off the shave with a splash of Floid Blue. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

 

Clint, do you face lather or bowl lather with the Synt chubby ? How does the knot compare to the plisson style knots ? It looks great BTW!

 

Andrew I face lather exclusively. I have two Simpson CH2 Synthetic brushes that are my favorite synthetic brushes. I have one Plisson Synthetic as well as two other brushes with plisson type knots. I enjoy the plisson type knots in use but I find them to be very different from the Simpson approach to synthetic knots. The Simpson CH2 synthetics take the same approach as their badger brushes. It is all about the density of knot. In badger brushes that gives the wall of badger feel. The Simpson synthetics behave the same way. The knots are very dense with tremendous backbone. That density does use more soap and I find they take longer to dry. The plisson style knots are not as dense and really more on loft and glue bump for back bone. I am not saying this does not work, it just feels different. It really just comes down to what one enjoys more. I will say that with Brexit the LE brush only cost a few dollars more than my original CH2 Synthetic I bought from Straight Razor Designs. If I can answer any other questions, please let me know.

I have a few best badger brushes, however, this is the only one I really like. It whipped up a great lather for a 3 pass shave with a clean up around the chin. Route 66 The Black Pearl worked perfectly. The Folsom & Co. Capri is one of my favorite aftershaves. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
