Last night I took The Soap Destroyer to the last remaining bit of my La Toja and it did its job! I also used this lovely Gillette Old Type ABC Pocket Edition that was so kindly sent to me from my good friend Alan @Morman Bridge . It was an absolutely fantastic shave, again another Old that I don't really find aggressive. It was very efficient though and the baby was waiting after my normal 3 passes. So, I'm four days in with my blade auditions for my 1911 OLD. Here are some thoughts; with the cap torqued all the way down, I'm getting some fantastic shaves with the GSB. When "riding the cap", if I start to see 'rows' of lather, the angle is out of whack. Overall, I'm really impressed with this razor. Hope I'm doing as well at 106!

One more day left in the shave/work week. The OLD is a champ!
I really can't wait to run more blades through this baby. I'm envisioning a OLD/NEW rotation with fill-ins by my other vintage razors.

Blade: Derby Extra (from Turkey) (1).
After shave: Cella after shave lotion.

The first week of blade auditions has come to a close this morning. It was a real kick to shave with a tool that is 106 years old. As a platform to deliver a blade edge to one's face this razor is hard to beat IMHO. I am considering a two razor rotation consisting of the OLD and my '32-'40 NEW SC. Next blade up is the Shark Super Chrome.

Second blade Focus starts today for my 1911 OLD. Shark Super Chrome is in the arena this week.
The two day growth was mowed down no problem. Monday's shave starts the real audition. If a blade can't handle stubble than it's no good for me. I'm not worried about the Shark however.

The second blade audition for my 1911 OLD is underway. Shark Super Chrome is up. Yesterday on a two day growth, the duo racked up a BBS shave. Today on workweek stubble, ditto. Lovin' the OLD!!

 

Fantastic shave this morning with my 1911 OLD and the great tribute brush crafted by @jimjo1031.

 

As I "continue down the path" with my 1911 OLD, I am more and more convinced that I will be going to an OLD/NEW rotation once I've found "the" blade for the OLD.
I'll mix in my other vintage razors as the spirit moves me.

One more shave in this blade audition tomorrow. Then the OLD gets a new playmate, PolSilver. New blade to me, but I have seen a lot of positive stuff about it. Should be interesting.

 

So the Shark Super Chrome audition closed out this morning. By a very narrow margin the GSB held on to the top spot. Next up on Sunday is the PolSilver Super Iridium. That will be followed by the Rapira Platinum Lux and then, last but not least Voskhod. The next 3 weeks are gonna be great!
