R41 with a Polsilver blade today

It was a loud shave and it felt like it was almost, but not quite, tugging. On the other hand, no nicks, scrapes, irritation or any other problems and a great shave after 3 passes.

My only problem with the R41 is the blade life reduction. I lose 1-2 days of use on a blade when I load it in the R41.

I had 2 Merkur OC's and I sold both. I have never read of anyone getting a really close with them, complaint has been they too mild.

After having the mornings by closing at the restaurant most of this week, I'll be opening in the morning. Didn't think I would have time to worry about getting a pic up in the morning, so this is tomorrows setup.

    ENOUGH!
A week with the Durham hoe handle is about all I can stand! After Wed's shave I had to start stropping the Durham Dog Dresser blade with a Durham another rig. After sropping a double edge blade with this rig, it makes a Rolls seem like a model of ease and efficency.

I'm done with the Durham. As of Sat, I'm going with a new Shick I got this week.

    Friday

Grafco - a rebranded Merkur 11C I found at a flea market. Paired it up with a Voskhod, day 5, 3+ passes.
I always seem to get great shaves out of my Merkur razors.

Tomorrow with be a str8, then finish out OC Week with my MMOC.

Ok, I'm going to need y'all to use your imaginations a bit. I sent my R41 off for someone to take for a test drive and forgot to take a pic for my SOTD before I mailed it. So, I envision it would be somewhere in the below pic, probably atop the Tabac.

    OC Week, Friday:
    • R41
    • Tabac SS
    • Proraso AS
    • Derby (3)
    • Vulfix 404, you know...."The Grosvenor"
Best shave of the 3 I used the Derby in. Maybe because I was extra careful not to sever any facial features I have. But over all a really good shave. I will admit to not loving the Proraso. It smells a lot like Adida Dynamic Pulse to me, which ain't bad, but the Proraso dissipates so fast. Between 4711 and Superior 70 in duration. I only worked half a day and had no trace left.....so I slapped on some Musgo Real :). The Tabac is maybe the best soap I've ever used. It is like MWF in many ways but so UN-finicky.

    SOTD_10-07-2011.jpg

All in all, a 3.25/5 blades for this one.

That is why I never got the least bit interested in the Durhams because of the blade issues. Good fortune with the Schick!

My first wife has said I have all the characteristics of a dog except loyalty. Nevertheless, I don't think I'll try the Durham hoe handle razor with the Dog Dresser Blade!

Ziglar OC Slant was today's razor...

I don't normally do pics, but I had this pic already on Picasa. For those that hadn't seen one, here is the Ziglar OC Slant:

The Ziglar is on the far right. From left to right we have an OC Merkur SLant, a vintage Merkur Slant, a modern Merkur Slant, and the Ziglar. I am thinking about the OC Merkur Slant for tomorrow.[IMG]

  19. Not wanting to miss out on the action, I picked up what I believe to be a ball handled Gillette New off the bay, which showed up the day before yesterday (sorry no pics yet!). So yesterday I loaded it with a fresh Shark blade for my shave.

I could immediately tell the new razor is more aggressive than my ball handled Tech, so I tried to shave using the lightest possible touch, with a lot of attention to blade angle. Although I think it is luck not skill at this point, I wound up with a DFS and no bleeders, and a face that felt great!

Gillette New, Shark blade, SimplyBeautiful Pure Bagder and Proraso Green, Witch Hazel, Aqua Velva.

I'll finish out the week with it but I'm taking the Tech with me on the road for the next two weeks.
