OC Week Saturday: ABC Floral pattern Green 7 O'clock Dalan d'men SC 24 mm super badger reknot boosted Superior 70 Not the worst shave. Still need to use this razor more and figure out how to wield it optimally. DFS none-the-less though. 3/5 blades.
I don't find that it shaves that much closer or aggressive than any other razor. Yes, it can give a great shave. However, a lot of the slant hype is just that... hype.
I have recently obtained both short and long comb bar handle NEWs. Best Gillette (for me) yet, heft, quality of shave, style, everything. I also think the open comb helped me adjust shaving angle, making the superspeeds and techs shave better also when I use them now..
Well, it's Saturday of OC week. Sorry, but my Saturdays are for my str8s. I didn't want to just bail, though, so I thought I share a pic of what I've been using this week. Left to right: Merkur 11C, Gillette OLD Type (circa 1918, I believe), Gillette NEW Type, Gillette Sheraton, Grafco (rebranded Merkur), and for tomorrow's shave - the Gem MicroMatic Open Comb, the infamous MMOC, loaded and ready to go!
Saturday Shave Gillette OC Old Type , replated Lord Stainless Blade Proraso Cream Omega Boar Scuttle Jeris Musk A/S
Sunday Used the Gem MicroMatic Open Comb to finish of a great Open Comb Theme Week. An absolutely super shave today.
Used the Merkur OC slant today.. I still have so many OC razors that didn't get use that maybe this will just become OC month. After all it is... OCtober
Catching up on my last 3 shaves to end Open Comb Week! Thursday, October 6, 2011 - Open Comb Week! Prep: Hot shower, California Baby face wash, Musgo Real men's body soap (Thanks Johnny!), hand strop blade Lather: Figaro Cream - face lather Brush: Frank Shaving Fine Badger Razor: Gem OCMM Blade: Ted Pella SS PTFE (8), 2+ passes Post: Alum block, WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue, hand strop blade Not a huge fan of the Figaro cream, but the blade was also ending it's life today so I may try it again. There is a high chance it'll end up in the BAWX Round 3. Another great performance from the OCMM though. Saturday, October 8, 2011 - Open Comb Week! Prep: Hot shower, California Baby face wash, Musgo Real men's body soap (Thanks Johnny!), hand strop blade Lather: Omega Cream - face lather Brush: Frank Shaving Fine Badger Razor: Gem OCMM Blade: Ted Pella SS PTFE (1), 2+ passes Post: Alum block, WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue, hand strop blade New blade and first time using the Omega cream. This resulted in an excellent shave. Very close and extremely comfortable. This was a great start to my day! Sunday, October 9, 2011 - Open Comb Week! Prep: Hot shower, California Baby face wash, Musgo Real men's body soap (Thanks Johnny!), hand strop blade Lather: Rise Shave Gel + M-Bomb Brush: None Razor: Gem OCMM Blade: Ted Pella SS PTFE (2), 2+ passes Post: Alum block, WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue, hand strop blade Still had a very smooth face from yesterday's shave, but there's just something about wanting to shave before heading to church. I used the Rise to have a very slick surface to prevent any irritation. I should have stopped with one pass but did a second. This did give just a bit of irritation along the jaw line, but nothing that the post-shave couldn't handle. Have a great Lord's day all!
Sunday morning, Gillette NEW Short Comb, Israeli Personna Crystal Blade (2) Rooney 1/1 Best Badger Brush, Arko shave soap w/ hot water lather, finish w/ cold water rinse. DFS!
Well, I got up and took my pictures yesterday...just I was heading to sit down at the computer SWMBO decided that she wanted to go shopping and that I needed to go with her. Had to head to the restaurant as soon as we got home, so here is Saturday's shave and today as well. OC week has been great, and these theme weeks have been a fantastic idea! Thanks Steve for getting them organized. Saturday: Gillette Old Type (Single Ring??) Voskhod Semogue 830 Col. Conk Bay Rum SS/Godrej SC superlather (and boy was it) WH Pinaud Clubman Bay Rum AS Sunday's Shave: Gillette New Delux (love this razor) Voskhod VDH badger MWF SS WH C.O. Bigelow Bay Rum ASB
I had planned on swapping out the Shave King for a different O/C razor midweek, but it was giving me such nice shaves, I never swapped it out.
My first participation in a theme week and I really enjoyed. Kudos to Swarden for a great idea and execution. Replated Gillette Shortcomb head, Ikon razor handle Lord Stainless Blade Razorock Shaving Cream Soap XXX Omega 48 Pashana A/S
Glad to hear so many folks have been enjoying the Theme Weeks. I'm enjoying them and had fun putting the list together, with the help of fellow members, I might add. Lots more to come!
I did OCtoberfest last year. I don't think I have used a safety bar razor more than a few times since.
