The aurora was very bright last night! Here are a few shots from last night. The purple streak in the sky is what is now known as Steve, formerly called a Proton Arc. It is a rare unknown phenomenon that scientists are trying to figure out. It appears in front of the aurora storm, sometimes, swirling around like a horizontal tornado. Thanks you for the compliment! I should add that very little touch up was required for these. The aurora was so bright people were taking pictures with their cell phones. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Really...that's interesting. Would it be because of less haze in the air? Just an FYI, I hwar this weekend is supposed to be great for aurora. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I live outside of a small town west of Ottawa in the country, actually in the woods. Our skies are usually very clear. We see the Aurora best in Winter. I'm really not sure why.
Thanks! And yes, Steve! The story is we all called it a Proton Arc, then NASA, or someone contacted a photographer friend of mine and said it isn't a Proton Arc. So we dubbed it Steve instead. Since scientists don't know what Steve is, we are encouraged to submit our photos and videos of Steve to space scientists to help them discover what it is. Pretty cool huh! You have a real talent for photography sir! Good equipment is nice and certainly helps, but you have an extraordinary eye for composing great photos, and clearly know how to use your equipment.
Thank you very much for the compliment! My equipment is definitely not the best, but I have been using one lens (35mm prime lens) solely for the last year. That definitely helped me become a better photographer. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
This is the ranch ourtside Victoria, Texas that we hunted for hogs last weekend. It makes me feel good to sit under trees at least twice as old as I am....................
I've been doing a bit of hiking recently and thought I would share some pics. Just cell phone quality.... Here is a shot Glen Onoko in Jim Thorpe, PA This is the lower/smaller waterfall there. The Trail gets a little sketchy when dry and people get hurt or worse every year. Here is one from the top of Mt. Minsi in the Delaware Water Gap, PA.
Been out of pocket for a while, lots of overtime due to being short-handed, but did manage to take some time off & return to the high desert of the Southwest... Green River, Utah Gunnison River, Colorado Somewhere in White Pine County, Nevada Valley of the Gods, Utah Also slipped into Death Valley & did the 20 Mules Canyon, and the twistie part of the old Route 66 between Kingman and Oatman, Arizona. Six states, 3720 miles, 8 1/2 days. I needed that.
wonderful photos! When you took the Gunnison River shot, were you anywhere close to the town of Montrose?
