Overlooks the obvious

DE, SE, and injector shaving have the potential to be cheap. Presumably straight shaving also. People like us, who find the topic interesting enough to spend time discussing it here, may be more prone to the ADs that negate the savings.

I sent an email to the writer of the WSJ article, mentioning that the article had been discussed on Internet forums devoted to shaving, and that DE razors were something he might want to look into. I gather from comments here and on B&B that he's getting other emails from wetshaving enthusiasts. What he does with the information is up to him.

 

I think the reason we have ADs that will push us to do this is because it IS special. Since it isn't mainstream these little shaving gadgets are fun to collect because they have to be hunted down and you feel reward for it when you score one. If the world would have never gotten away from them, we'd probably be less apt to have an AD. SS/SC/blades would still need to be bought but probably not like we do currently. I never went on canned goo hunts to try and find a goo for every day of the week even though they were available. It is in the way we have been programmed as consumers.

Hell, I don't know. I just started typing without a lot of thought. That's my initial thought pattern though.

 

I think the popularity of DE and str8 shaving is more than what we realize. I know between here and B&B the newbie sign up is drastic from when I joined back in November 09 alone. Sure, it's not done in the mass of say, LED televisions, but it's also not advertised, either, at least to the extent of most mainstream goodies.

In regards to the prices for our tools going up, I am so inclined to agree with the theory of supply and demand AND competition. When a Company produces more, they can buy in bulk thus reducing their costs, making the increase in demand more profitable. And if it does send the costs skyward, I'm sure a lot of our fellow Brothers here at the den, and in some cases a handful, would profit greatly by selling some of their surplus supplies. That was a joke guys!
