I got another good shave with it today. Keep in mind, however, that it is a somewhat aggressive razor. Even when fully closed, it has positive blade exposure. I haven't used it on anything higher than 1.5 on my instance of the razor. I say "my instance" (or "example", if you prefer) since like the Merkur Progress, 1.5 on mine might equal another setting on yours. When I close mine fully, it is almost on the "6" on the dial.
I bought my Pearl Flexy a few months ago and love it. A bit heavier than my Fatboy but it's build is nothing but perfection, Very well made. A blade is easy to load. I adjust mine to 3 sometimes 4 depending on the blade I'm using. The shave is about the same as my Fatboy on 7 but with a bit more weight. I think that the weight and blade exposure makes it very efficient. The Willy's blades that comes with it, I'd compare to the German Wilkinson Sword. Personally, I don't think this razor is good for a first razor for a beginner.
Well, after today's shave with it, I'm perplexed. It was a bit rough. Some neck irritation and weepers. And I didn't go higher than 1. And I'm getting tea staining on the blade that was visible on the exposed edge. I took the blade out, cleaned the razor, and put it aside for now. I haven't used my Fatboy in over a year, but I think I went up to 3 or 4. The Flexi on 1 is much more aggressive. YMMV.
I don't have a heavy beard nor sensitive skin but personally, I have found that as my father taught me, shaving with an aggressive razor using the most shallowest angle (riding the cap) even at a high setting gives me a a very comfortable shave. Even when I shaved with a SR I used a shallow angle. I always shaved with my Gillette Slim with a setting of 6 or 7 even when I was shaving off sort of a peach fuzz at age 14 but that's just me. There are many men that prefer a more mild razor like a Tech or a Red Flare Tip. My thoughts are is to give it another chance and try the shallowest angle useing no pressure as the Flex is heavy. I just let the Flex do the work, I just guide it. Hopefully this post helps those who put the Flex in the draw after 1 or 2 shaves, the Flex is not for eveyones likes.
Yes, but I'm not sure why I got different results using the same angle. I had used a very shallow angle months ago for the first try and it didn't work out. And the tea-staining is an annoyance.
The Flexi is a great value in an all-brass adjustable razor, IMO. I heard that early on there were some QC issues, but mine seems flawless. It's weighty, but I tend to prefer heavier razors, so I like the weight. Really a good razor that works well for me.
So Questions when all Assembled with blade in it is there supposed to be a Rattle in it. ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks just shaved with it. Time will tell if I fall in love with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mine has no rattle. Check to see if cap or head is properly lined up? With blade in it , is knob snugged up? If so you may have s defected razor - contact Pearl for replacement.
What is this about tea like staining on the blade and why? possable answers might be, Blade to razor reacting due to different metal coating reactions? soap to metal reaction? I'd contact Pearl with this issue. Odd that I have not run into any of these issues.
I thought the rattle was caused by a retainer clip inside. I wouldn't have known about the rattle unless I had read about it on the Internet. Unless you shake it (and why shake it?), you won't hear it. Ah, where ignorance is bliss. I wouldn't have known about zamak rot if it weren't for the Internet, either, I have yet to experience it.
With the Flexi and other razors, I'm not sure that using a stand is the optimal position to let the razor dry, especially for razors that clamp the blade so well, ironically. I think laying the razor horizontally may be better -- gravity is your friend. BTW, my Flexi has only one set of 6 digit settings -- does anyone else's have "multiple 6 digit settings"?
