It is an ingredient put in stuff to make it foam, like shave cream and toothpaste. Some people have skin reactions to it.
While true, SLS and SLES have relatively high reaction rates as far as ingredients allowed in consumer products go. COB/Proraso also has parabens which are another high-rate irritant. Mind you, when I say relatively high rate, we're still talking a rather small rate, just high enough to point out.
More on that, there most definitely are also some ingredient not listed in the list. If they're under some established volume.
As I stated in my SOTD post today, these two creams may not be identical twins, but there is a heck of a strong family resemblance. Side by side I detect a very subtle difference in the scent, but I do feel that the Bigelow has a larger menthol kick in it than the Proraso (I'll use Proraso tomorrow to double check ), and the Bigelow performed every bit as well as Proraso does for me.
I'm with Bill. No discernible difference that I can tell. Both perform and feel the same to me. That said, if one doesn't work for you there's always the other. Perfect!
definitely I used proraso this morning no issues. this evening I lathered up my brush with C.O Bigelow. and yes I did have the same alergic reaction. the side of my face is burning feels like I got razor burn. weird.
Figure on spending about $10 - $12 on a tube of Proraso. IIRC that is about the same price from Bath & Body Works for the same size Bigelow cream (they have a smaller tube), and they sometimes have BOGO sales on Bigelow items. The Mrs. recently picked up 4 tubes for $20.00.
keep your eye on bath and body website. they always have a sale on the shave cream. you can double up.
