I used the Lime soap yesterday. I agree that the smell seems harsh on the puck but mellows nicely when lathered. I was able to pretty easily get a nice lather going, though nothing like Hayter's lather (jeez). The lather was slick and protective. In my case, the second pass lather started to thin out and the area where the I had just shaved the lather away got a bit "sticky" if that makes sense. I was able to recharge the lather pretty easily so it wasn't a big deal. I guess a bit more water may have been in order, I'm not sure.

Anyway it was a pretty darned good soap experience. I used a new blade for me, India Wilkie Sword. I didn't really like it as I was shaving and I ended up with about three nicks...but...after applying some AS, I had one heck of a good shave, Pretty much BBS all around except for the usual suspect spot under my chin. Go figure. I don't care for shaving with the IndianWilkie, but I can't argue with the results.

Anyway, back to the thread, I very much liked the Pyrate soap, just need to adjust my technique.

I love this soap, it is a great performing product for a great price. It makes me happy to see so many folks willing to give it a try and ending up with satisfying results. I was very hesitant to try Pyrate Cove when I first heard about the soap, mainly due to the number of poor artisan products that are out there, but with such low prices I shrugged my shoulders and put in the order. I'm glad that I did and I'm glad that I could help you fine folks take the leap too. The Cucumber Mellon scent rules!

If you get a second, and feel so inclined, send Tom over at Pyrate Cove Soapworks an email letting him know how much his products are appreciated. He's a nice guy and I'm sure he could use the encouragement. wilsonti@aol.com

Since the price is so low for these products and the scents are so great so far. I decided to order one of each scent minus the unscented one. So I will now have one of every scent they make. I am looking forward to trying them all out.

I really gotta say after using this soap pretty much exclusivly lately. The soap is a fantastic bowl lather soap. It has great lather and slickness. After figuring out the right amount of water to put with it, the soap doesnt dry out and allows me to take my time. Smooth soap and smooth shave. This stuff gets an A+ from me for price and usability.

At $3 to $4 per soap, with free shipping, you just can't go wrong! Get the Cucumber Mellon for $3 and if you hate it you're only out the cost of a couple of gas station hot dogs.

I ordered all of their scents. I just used the menthol soap this morning. It was just as good of a lather as the other ones I have tried so far, and the menthol wow! The only other menthol type i have tried before was the C.O bigelow and I thought that was cold. The menthol soap from Pyrate cove was mild for the first pass and kept getting more and more intense with each pass. IMO this stuff is must more menthol than the C.O Bigelow, but doesnt have as much cushion.

Im onboard to try the unsented, dont like other smells to mix with my aftershave.
Does the scent linger after rinsing?

It does for me, but not very long at all. Any scent that lingers from the soap gets over powerd by the after shave that i use.

I haven't tried the menthol yet, to be honest I never really had any interest in menthol soaps or creams until recently. My wife got me to try Kiss My Face Cool Mint, which I liked (other than the scent which, to me, smells like toothpaste) and C.O. Bigelow, which I loved. I completely forgot that Pyrate Cove offered a menthol soap, thanks for the reminder! I am going menthol crazy, so I will definitely be ordering a couple of pucks.

As for the scent, I find that it depends on which scent you use, but it does not stick around all that long and is easily overpowered by after shave or cologne. I have yet to try the unscented version, so I do not know just how scent free it is, but I doubt that it would cause any issues or have any lingering effects that would interfere with either your chosen after shave or cologne.

The lime scent disappears very quickly. The bay rum sticks around a bit longer but is pretty muted.

IMO its stronger than the C.O Bigelow. Then again i may just be sensitive to it, I dont know. I know I like it though, and thats good enough for me. LOL... YMMV..

Of course I had to test lather them both;)

Wonderful lather. Easy to make and feels nice and slick. About 30 seconds of loading gave me more than enough for 3-4 passes.

After reading jaberwock's informative post on Jan 30, I gave into temptation and ordered 3 pucks BayRum,Lavender and Manderine. I put the Bay Rum in a small "Ziploc" container and began using it immediately and it has stored well in this container. It has a nice scent and make's good lather also.

My question/conundrum, I was looking in my Den today where I store my extra soaps and discovered the other two pucks of Pyrates Cove soap soaked with sweat, the paper wrappers completely soaked and coming off the pucks..:( I quickly took the soaps out of the cabinet and washed/scrapped the paper wrappers off the pucks and put each puck in a similar "Ziploc" container. No other soap I have ever stored in this cabinet has done this. Also none of the 7 other soaps that were in the cabinet with the Pyrates Cove soap was sweating. Has this happened to anyone else storing Pyrates Cove soap?
