great Idea, I like it I could poss find something to donate or eveb keep it here and use for uk based people, if that is feasable in anyway
I like the idea....But if we make it international, we need to keep the shipping costs down, so the shipping isn't more than the value of the razor....I think Jody's idea for requirements is right on; but Dridecker makes sense aswell...It could be up to the owner. If I throw something in I don't care. But if someone has something too nice and hard to replace thats another story....And the borrower shipping to the next person in line is hip. It keeps the razor in circulation and causes less pain for TSD store if thats going to be library central.... And new items being offered could either be shipped to the first borrower from the owner, to get the razor into circulation quickly and save TSD store another step....I mean the owner could notify TSD store of the new razor entry...Then TSD store puts it in the library catologue...Then when someone meets the borrower specifics, the owner ships it to the first borrower.... The buying option should always be available and not discouraged, unless the owner really doesn't want to part with it, and thats certainly understandable....If someone has love at first pass...We don't want any broken hearts...lol Just some off the top ideas without much thought...obviously... I might have a razor available aswell....
Well like I said, I am not quite sure how to make the back end work. I certainly whdon't want to see you tasked with another program to run. OTOH, I think that the library would be better served if it was housed within the store. As for the razors that I am offering to seed the library with, my intention was for those razors to become TSD community property, so I wont commit the razors that others have offered up to the same status unless that is their wish.
Dunno for sure Bob, I guess it would have to be handled like the local equipment rental stores and make the deposit an amount large enough where even if it doesn't get returned, then there is money enough to get a replacement.
I have to agree with jody... There are some people who just come sign up get free stuff and leave. I have lost some items that way. Nothing big because i am cautious of just giving things away to people who won't enjoy or shall abuse the kindness of the wet shaving community.
Like I said in a previous post, I love the idea of a lending library. But never having shipped a razor, I'm curious what the average shipping costs of a razor would be. I would assume that anyone borrowing a razor should pay for the shipping in both directions. That seems only fair. But if shipping is over $5 each way, that could be a substantial amount towards a new razor.
You don't have to use PayPal, just ask for them to put on confirmation when you go to the post office, its cheaper though using the pre-printed label; in case anyone is reading this for other purposes.
sounds like a good idea to me, it would be nice to try a razor before committing to buying one. when it comes together I may have a few razors to contribute.
I like the general idea, but I would guess this is going to be a lot of work and organizing for someone to do, and the bigger it gets the more work and organizing that someone will have to keep doing.
I think it is a great idea! Will it be hard to keep track of, most likely, but the thing we have going for us...I think anyway, is that I am sure we will have an idea of who most of the people are who are borrowing. I do agree with Regan and Jody, in that we need some sort of "qualifier". I'm not sure about a time frame, but I think the post count is a good idea. IMO I don't think someone will want to stick around and hit 50 posts, just to take a razor and run... At the same time I think it is fair to ask for a depostit from anyone who wants to take part. That could easily be taken care of via a separate Paypal account, then the history is all there as to who and when. I do think it is doable, it will just need a few of us to hash out the plans...the best part is that there can be more than one person in charge, to share the load so to speak...I have many more ideas as to how to get this up and running and what we can to to keep up to date records! (I am kicking it into full management mode right now for my accounting program...lol!)
You go, Luke!! I really like the idea, especially for a newbie who doesn't know exactly what they want. And then to have the chance to try out different razors without committing to purchasing them; that's an invaluable tool.
