ok...so i got my LORD razor finally...worked great on my face...but on my head??? NO WAY !!!! I can't see using a safety razor on my head ever. Looked like an extreme championship wrestling match took place on my head.... Gonna stick w/fusions for my head(tried and true and NEVER bled) and do the whole safety razor thing for my face......guess i'll save some money
Patience, you must have. During the summer months, my dome stays clean shaven and that's done with a made-in-1910 Gillette single ring open-comb double-edge razor. No fuss, no muss, no blood. I personally think the LORD is too long for head shaving. With the old Gillette, I can zip around my head and be done in 5 minutes. Just try a different razor, go slow and watch the angle of the blade.
It takes a little practice to get the head shaves down with a safety razor. If your new to d/e it takes a while to develop good technique. If you've been using a fusion for a while your likely using too much pressure. If you use too much pressure on your noggin with a d/e it will show.
i use absolutely NO pressure with the fusion...just let the blades do their job.....i just think that a DE doesnt work with the contours of my head....not sure i'll ever try it on my head again !!!!
I use whatever DE and blade that I'm using for my face.I rotate between Feather AS-D1,Pils 101NE,ikon OSS,Weber SS and a Merkur Futur.
I use a Norelco electric on my head for about 5 minutes to get most of it done right after waking up while sipping morning coffee. In the shower I do a quick once over with a Headblade Sport (rubber handle's much better than original) with either the Headblade branded triple blade cart or the less expensive (but sharper) double blade Gillette Atra cart. There are times I perfer to use my Weber DLC BullDog razor with a feather blade,it's very efficient and smooth on the scalp. No matter what....it's always works best for me to buzz my head with the Norelco electric before using a DE razor or Headblade,it saves water and time in the shower, less passes, less irritation. When on vacation especially staying at friend's houses can't beat using the electric before getting out of my room then a quick touch up in the shower with a Headblade or DE razor- I don't want to be a rude guest and spend too much time in their shower trying to get a BBS noggin.
A update to my last post so far my favorites for headshaves are,Gem OCMM,Cobra Classic,Joris 1912T and a surprise Gillette 51 SS.The only razor I won't do a headshave with is the R41 Grande.I love this razor but it's just too aggressive for my dome.
Wow, do times and preferences change in my shaving world. My favorite head shavers now are Lord L6, Merkur Vision and Futur both razors are equal to me in the shave they deliver. And Gillette Fusion Pro-Glide, yep a pro-glide, even though the blades are too expensive, with proper technique IMHO this is one stellar razor. Two passes and BBS is the norm.
This is my head clipper of choice - once across the top, once on each side, then a second cup of coffee. Great time saver!!
I'm tempted to try something along the lines of DE later on - though I have a few moles on the back of my head which could be problematic. Actually I would have tried my straights on there earlier but the idea of severing one of those is just....yeah. Not good.
I've been shaving the bean daily for ten years. I started with Mach 3. When I made the switch to D/E, I just made the jump. Now I am using a Feather with Feather blades. For some reason I never had any issues with the D/E on the noggin.
I'm still trying to find my perfect razor. I'm getting a Merkur 39c slant in the mail today, and am anxious to try that.
Has anyone that made the switch from cartridge to DE noticed a lot of cuts? And if so, did you try the 30 day rule? Did you see any improvements or did you just resort back to the cartridges for the dome?
I find that a very mild razor with a good blade works best for me. My Weishi TTO razor, or my '65 Gillette slim adjustable set on #1 or 2 are my go to's
