Using the process of elimination, I would think that option 2 would be greatly preferable. My take is that "1-2 dozen nicks and weepers and angry red irritation" is completely unacceptable. It is more important to get a comfortable shave than a close shave. The reason is that uncomfortable shaves cause suffering, and that is pointless. A lot of guys get into traditional wetshaving chasing the baby bottom smooth shave to the exclusion of all else. While such a shave might be the ne plus ultra of men's grooming, that does not mean everything else is a distant tenth place. You tried all kinds of different gear, varied your technique, and selected what worked best for y0u. I wouldn't call that a GES, but a CSS (Common Sense Shave). What you did was simply apply reason and common sense to find the best option. I won't suggest CSS as an acronym, though, because I believe that acronyms should be eliminated as much as possible. They make things harder to understand for those not already in the know. Our world isn't perfect, and your shaves also might not be utterly, unfailingly, mind-blowingly 100 percent perfect. They can be quite good, however, and if they are better than before it is a worthy accomplishment. If people can't deal with the fact that your experiences are different from what they want them to be, then too bad. If they criticize you for getting a great shave with a cartridge system, then they should know better. Dogma is to shaving what drama is to shaving forums - an impediment and unnecessary complication.
