It's sure to get a great edge then. I hope he isn't charging by the hour. It seems that the Russian Razors are very time consuming.
I had a short conversation with him about them and other harder steel razors. In short he said that if you expect it to take a long time it will take a long time. All you need to do is hone a few hundred razors and have the right tools and you'd be amazed at what you can do. (OK, I'm paraphrasing liberally.) But, he definitely welcomes them - so, that might be a good option for those of us who don't have the patience, talent, technique, or tools.
I'm going to give mine another shot. Started on my Welsh purple stone, and going to this one. Steel seems pretty soft, but is polishing up quickly.
Excellent. How did you get yours to slurry so well. My slurry stones just want to glide over the hones.
I will stop reading this thread I do not need another razor. So I will booby trap this thread to stop the temptation.
Took me about 25 minutes to work out the chips and polish it out. And I didn't go below the Dragon's Tounge stone. Its tree topping hairs now, but I don't have high hopes for this shave.
