This is my B2. It was given to me ~10 years ago, when I could have cared less about vintage shaving. Luckily I kept it because the engineering was so phenomenal. It had a broken spring and recently (~6 months ago), I repaired it.
For the gold B2 I made a new spring by annealing (multiple times as I made the 180 bend) and hardening and then tempering a feeler gauge. Pictures show old broken spring, new riveted spring in place (not as nice as factory fresh ) and stock used to make it.
The B2 was not as aggressive as it usually is because of the blade getting dull. but it did give me a great shave today.
....Man...you might want to open a Schick Repeater Service Center....You could become famous! It does my heart good to see someone same such a beautiful masterpiece of 'fuctional art' like this...And use it like it was meant to be.... Yo Red....Me and you too Baby!!! I had a fantastic shave with my Schick Simplified Automatic C3 today that makes me think.....I believe I have always been a Schick repeater guy, just waiting for this razor...my soul shaver, if you will...
Alright so I said earlier that the C3 was the favorite among the repeaters for me... After today's shave with the C2 I'm not so sure, I had the best shave this week with this beauty, smooth comfortable and easy, total BBS. Now I need to find a C1...
All week with the type B has a learning experience. Having not ever used this razor more than one day at a time, I never learned to properly shave with it. I find this is the most difficult repeater to get consistantly good shaves with. Anyhow, a couple more days and it will be onto the type C for a week or so
I've been inspired by @Hodge 's march through his repeaters so I broke out the C3 today. I've also been thinking that it might be a good idea to start using this in preparation for the Bunny pass-around as I expect it has a similar angle. Anyhow, it was a great shave. My last couple of outings left me less than impressed but today's was excellent. Great reduction with each pass - I could have done touch-ups after the second pass - and a nice smooth shave that resulted in the face-rubbing goodness. The difference was switching out the Personna blade for a Schick NOS Super Chromium after the first pass on the first side of my face. The Personna just wasn't doing it. Tuggy in the tough parts and poor reduction overall. Proof (at least to me), once again, that a blade can totally change the experience with a razor. And how cool is it to load the blade with the plunger? Sweet. While not my favorite shaving tool, (very handle heavy) the Schick Repeaters are the most interesting designs of their time. Absolutely the ultimate travel razor. Mind you, I do occasionally shave with one & get a very good shave. The only complaint of the Repeater is its balance. Here's mine. (L to R Type A / three Type B-1 / Type B-2 closed comb / C-3 / C-1)
