I picked one of these up at an antique store for 20 bucks (guess the guy didnt really do his research) - your case looks to be in a bit better shape than mine. I really like it, its got more weight than my super speed but less features than my fatboy. I've actually been using it this week.
The head is just a little bit (like 9 out of 10) tarnished, I dont want to polish it too aggressivley, but I really just need to take my time. The rest of it is amazingly beautiful. it matches the bank quite well. Its in better condition than my fatboy.
Just scored a 1941 Aristocrat in a metal (gold plated) box with blade bank on eBay at the end of an offering. It is beautiful and I too think about the history this tool saw. It's in great shape and the lining looks like new. Even my SO thought it was a work of art. (Usually get grief for shaving acquisitions and my obsession with all thing shaving.) Nice score for you. I hesitate to use it, though. Kind of like defacing a national treasure. I know, that's crazy. Just display it and enjoy looking at it. I'm a SR shaver anyway, I tell myself.
Man oh man! I thought I had gotten too old and wise for it but you young bucks are making this old timer quite jealous. I've gotta hit Renningers soon.
After seeing your picture, My blade case isn't an Astro's as I thought. On mine the edges are rounded a bit and it has finger notches on the side plus no engraving.
