Looks like a micromatic to me.

Yours would be a clog proof micro matic. They get a bad rep around but I like them just fine... welcome to the club.:D

Please enlighten me a little. Did the minicromatic come in both open and closed comb versions? Why do the closed comb have a bad reputation?

I would guess that it is an example of misinformation. Kind of like the general consensus that techs are too mild to shave with, these get referred to as cheese graters and are claimed to be too rough. Eh. use a good angle, a good blade, and good technique and they do fine.

OK, the openings on the clog-pruf do have a cheese grater type look to them... just throwing that out there, I doubt that is why they are called cheese-graters.

Yes, there with the TTO knob like yours there was the open comb and the closed comb Clog-Pruf. There was another model with a "bullet" shaped end on the knob that was also closed but it was a different shape in the head..

The open comb models really have the worse rep. But all the micro matics get talked bad about. As Justin said good technique and attention to detail make them work fine. I am not sure that there is any difference in the head of the bullet model and the antenna model. They were just made at different times. The antenna like in the picture are from the 30's the Bullet tips more to the 40's. I have not used the newer ones but have several of the bullet models in open comb and safety bar <clog Proof>.

I will join in if that's okay. My SE collection has exploded yet I have not shaved w/ any of them. Two in particular Griz gave me. One is a Gem gold w/ ornate handle and newer model NOS complete w/ case and blades (all sealed up). It has a Flare bottom to it. I can only play for a couple of days as I am heading up to TN for a camp / fly fishing trip. No shaving when I am camping or fishing.

Ok, first one down. I used a Micromatic that looks exactly like JB's picture. CVS Blade and TOBS Avocado. The cream worked great for me and I love the scent. The razor on the other hand didn't. I guess I'm one of the people that falls into the catagory of not liking the Micromatic. It was a rough shave with a new blade and lots of stubble left over. It's neat to look at, so will just become a wall hanger from now on...

Oh yeah, can't forget the Old Spice A/S splash this morning either. Worked well with the scent of the cream.

I have an open comb micromatic and I shredded my face with it the last time I used it. The micromatic has a slightly different angle than the GEM featherweight I regularly use and it's a bit more aggressive. I think it would shave well if I could have enough time to shave slowly.

So, I think that micromatics are good razors- but you have to take your time and learn a slightly different technique. They're a category all to themselves.

Oh, and this morning's shave went all right- had to rush at the end so I could take care of a screaming kiddo. Ended up nicking myself. Minor setback. Tomorrow's shave will go better.

Those things take come learning. No doubt about it. Glad the TOBS treated you right.

Agreed...and if it was my only razor, I would...but when you can get better shaves from the 1912's, Star's and Featherweights without changing your whole routine, there's not much incentive for me to keep messing with the Micromatic. ;)

Funny mastering this blade did not take a lot of learning on my part once I managed to figure out how to get the blade out of the dispenser.

We got one more thing in common...I carried a Smith 65 for years until the boss made us switch over to Glocks. Got a 3 inch 65 for my off-duty now.

Hi-jack finished. Back to SE's. I think I'll go with the baton handle Gem in the morning.

I dunno what model that one is but I LIKE it! Perhaps Bunny or Dave will stop by and provide an ID for us.

1st SE shave of the week with the 1912 Ornate, C&E Sandalwood (I'm gonna miss this soap when it's gone) a Pal blade, my old Boar of a Brush, and followed up with the C&E A/S Balm. Wooooooo that's a close shave I tell ya! Got a couple of weepers, but no biggie. A user error rather than equipment problem. I think I'll give that heap cheap Derby cream a try with the paint scraper for the next one.
