That's odd there is somthing here that I do not quite understand. The two are seperate companies all together. Perhaps in Pakistan Treet has a license to make blades under the ASR label. Unfortunately the person that would have that information is not available at this point so I can not go ask. But i will post the question on the appropriate forum.

I will double check that when I get home but I am fairly sure this has come up before and they say made in USA, ASR on the back of the box.

That would explain it, if the ones with the ASR label they would be made in USA, the treets are made in Pakistan. I do not think that these two companies have anything to do with each other. The treets should not say made in USA or ASR. Of course there may be something here I do not understand.

I own pucks of Williams, VDH, and a sample of Tabac, why do I need to buy more?

I like the stainless SE blades better than the carbons too. The carbons are easier for me to get locally though. I haven't seen a platinum version of the SE blades yet, or I'd try those out. Do they exist???

went with the baton handle Gem, CVS Blade and TOBS Avocado again. This is the best SE razor I have and the CVS blades work the best for me. Perfect combo. I'm not sure if I can go a week with this cream, though. Nothing wrong with it at all, I just like variety in life...

I liked the TOBS Avacado too. Good stuff! Today I used the Derby cream with the 1912 and it went just fine. The only thing I can find wrong with the derby is that it's cheap and the scent isn't great.

I don't think platinum coated SE blades exist. I've looked high and low, near and far, and have not found any. I think I'd like them most of all if they did exist.

And yeah, the different store labels do vary wildly in cost. I can get a 10 pack of the stainless SEs at CVS for 3 something while the same product with a different store label costs 5 something at the Walgreens across the street.

Shaved with the Military Gem Jr. and a Pal blade this morning. Uberlather with Tabac soap, glycerine and Proraso cream. Wow, what a great shave! Not quite as close as I can get with an adjustable and a Feather, but very nice. It's probably more technique than razor or blade at this point.

I realized something else too. I love the sound that a SE makes while shaving. It's got quite the high level of audible feedback, almost like a straight. Looking forward to tomorrow morning!

Another fine S/E shave today. Used the gold featherweight my daughter picked out and same blade as yesterday. I love that Old Spice soap, don't know what I'm gonna replace it with.

My daughter has my G-Bar lined up for tomorrow with TOBS Rose.

Yes. I find that the Gem by Personna/"Ted Pella"....ok, ok, ok....let me start over here....

ASR makes Gem by Personna. Ted Pella sells that blade in bulk. It is the same blade as far as anybody can tell. When people say they "used a Pella today" they mean they used a GEM blade purchased through the Ted Pella website. The Gem by Personna blades can be picked up locally - for me it's Walgreens. These are stainless steel blades, which do have some sort of coating AFAIK...PTFE I believe. These, IMHO, are the smoothest and last the longest.

ASR also makes the store bought Treet blades, which I can find at Rite Aid. These are carbon steel, and not as sharp, smooth, nor do they last as long as the Gems. I do not believe these are coated with anything, although I could be wrong.

ASR also makes the PAL blades, which I can find at Family Dollar. These are the coolest looking blades - they're blued. They are carbon steel, to me they are the sharpest, smoother than Treet, not as smooth as Gems, and don't last long either.

I think that about sums it up....:D

Hey folks just got in from the day with mom.. Good stuff. I see we have been playing nicely.

I also love the sound of the SE. I see that every one had a nice shave. I agree that sticking to one cream is hard... I will catch up more later.:D

Interesting information. Do you think the carbon steel blades would shave better if they were stropped? I've read that some people are getting better shaves and stretching the blade life by hand stropping. Do you think the same would apply to SE blades?

Naw, I meant it for everyone, just quoted the post to give thanks for the info. Now, what's a strop smock? and would I be able to use my straight razor strop? Would it do any good?

It's a tough call, honestly. You'll get people from both sides of the camp. I have stropped, and I haven't....it's hard to tell if there's any difference or not, to me....I do think it would work better on DE blades rather than SE blades because the metal is thinner, and the edge is thinner. I think if a SE blade was honed to the thinness at the very edge to that of a straight razor, then sure, stropping would be necessary. For stropping, I'd say try it for a while, and then stop, and see if you notice a difference. I will say that when I do strop a SE blade, I use the inside of my forearm and I do it for 6 times each side not 4- we call it a Rollsstrop, search for the thread on it.... Today, I did cork and strop my blade....why? dunno, maybe Rolls told me too...

What I do think will lengthen the life of the carbon blade would be to dry it thoroughly to remove any water (yes, take it out and wipe it ) and replace it, then place the whole head in enough alcohol to cover the blade. Maybe just shaking it dry would suffice. I think the faster degradation of the uncoated carbon blades is due to rust build up on the very fine edge...
