Do you know if the PTFE coating is the same as the platinum coating on the more popular DE blades? Wilkinson, Personna DE, Derby, etc... Or is the stainless SE roughly similar to the sharp stainless DE?

I'm gonna say no, and not to sound like a jerk, but only because PTFE and Platinum are different materials. PTFE is basically a Teflon coating, where as Platinum is...well, Platinum.

I did a little research and I'm going to answer myself- the PTFE coating is *not* a platinum coating. PTFE is a chemical used to treat non stick cookware, among other things. It's used on the razor blades to improve sharpness and increase number of uses.

I really wish they made a platinum coated SE blade.

You might just want to make 100% sure that they're the same as the ones you can buy locally...

Matt they say industrial blades on the pack.. but that could just be because of where they are sold, Not sure.

I just fired off an email to Ted Pella asking if they were the same as the PAL Supers, and if they couldn't say then if they could direct me to their distributor/manufacturer. I also asked if they knew of any Platinum coated blades... we'll see what kind of response I get...

    Is it a 1910, Cal? :D

Seriously, though...I thought it'd be earlier given the patent dates....is your estimate based on the handle design, then?

I'd be interested to know about those blades too.

All I know is that I can only get carbon GEM blades and the odd Korean blades around here. If I want stainless or coated, I will have to order them.

Mine is identical to yours and Dave told me it was a 1910 model. the 1900 did not have the bar that comes down over the blade. just the back lock and a clip on both sides of the blade. The pat. dates and all match mine.

Which ones, the Blue Dots? I can send you a 10 pack if you like....I can get the GEM stainless, Treets (carbon, probably just like the Gems you get), and PAL Super - blue carbon....PM me if you're interested...

    Cool. Thanks Cal :happy088
