This month should pay dividends! After a month or two, DE shaves will be a neat and efficient 15 min morning ritual. I look forward to seeing your progress and success!
Day 1 - SEptember 30 Day rule with a Schick G Thirty days hath SEptember, and Injectors! I love them. Took the G for an inaugural shave, and wow...aggressive and efficient. This is not as forgiving as my Eversharp or my Revere handle featured here previously, but today's shave was among the closest I've yet had. Almost too close in fact! I got a bit loose with the angles on the jaw and scraped a bit. As @Norcalnewb , @Rufus T. And @Herm2502 were discussing earlier, this razor is all about the angle of attack. To high and it sounds cool but doesn't cut, too low and it doesn't cut, but when I held it shallow and let it glide, this razor annihilates whiskers. Slays them. The Alum was rowdy, but that's gonna get better as I nail down the angle...BBS on two, albeit with some irritation, but not too bad after a half hour. Used the TSD 2x Iced Florida Water type AS today as the finish. Easy day on the prairie capped off with a late day storm producing 55 mph straight line wind. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
I shaved at about 6pm EST but I'm just now able to post about it. I chose to focus on single edge razors starting with a type G1 Schick injector and if it comes I going to a gem mid month. I decided to stick with my Semogue boar brush and Proraso soap in a tub. I intended to stick with the same aftershave all month but I already ruined that one. I took out my type G today and marveled at the beauty of it for a few minutes while my brush soaked and my whiskers softened under a hot towel. I loaded up my brush with Proraso white and face lathered. It took more effort to get a decent lather from it today. I think I was excited about using the injector because after I loaded up a second time it gave me its usual great lather. I laid the razor on M face riding the cap and slowly rotating the handle down towards my face until I could hear the blade cutting. It was such a natural feeling angle and the whole shave was effortless. I did a 3 pass WTG XTG and ATG and got BBS with zero irritation and only very minor touch UPS around the jawline. I was so shocked at how amazing this shave was that I decided to test it by using what I almost never use, alcohol based shave balm. I pulled out my dusty ill used tube of Gillette fusion cooling shave balm, squeezed some into my hands and, prepared for the worst, slapped it on. I felt the cooling effects of the menthol but not even a tingle from the alcohol. If the rest of this month goes half this well I may have some DE razors to sell or PIF.
Excellent! Your technique sounds flawless with the razor and that result is awesome. I will say that my shave with the Gem 1912 impressed me about as much this morning. I wondered why I hadn't picked it up before. It will be interesting when I get an injector back in my hand in a week or so since I started on one many many years ago. Great shave and great post!
It impressed me how effortless it was. With the DE razors I've always had to think about the angles of the blade and I always got irritation on my neck. This injector shaved so comfortably, just like my straight back when I learned to shave in my teens. I can still get effortless shaves with my shavette. I'm looking forward to shaving tomorrow. I cant wait to try the Gem. I think it may be the thicker blade that makes it so much more comfortable for me.
I need to use proraso again. It is one of the most consistent and easy to work soaps out there. I used either Arko or Proraso for all of my fundamental first few months with DE. And after trying a bunch of others, they're really aren't any better performing soaps out there. Proraso never irritated my skin, and the shaves were always very comfortable.
September 1st - week one focus Jordon hollow Razor: A.J. Jordan 5/8 full hollow straight Strop: drygulch horse hide strop Brush: Omega 48 Bowl: Knock Out Shave Soap: Stirling Orange Chill Post shave: Alum, Stirling Orange Chill After shave. Stirling unscented post shave balm Day 1 Excited to redo this focus as I learned a lot last time, but Kevin was around to help guide us through. Three pass shave; wtg (nice), xtg (nicer), atg (bbs!). Did a xtg neck pass with the progress after it was all said and done since I'm nervous with a square point blade going across my neck. This has been one of my favorite shaver since I started straight shaving. Tonight was no different. 20 linen and 30 leather stropps send to be the formula for this blade. Tiny little Nick on my chin but nothing that the poraso geek couldn't resolve. The alum made me sing just a bit but the Stirling after shave didn't sting a bit. Head on the pillow with a bbs if a great feeling. Cheers, Eric
I saw your earlier posts! Nice little group of straights! I bet we see Kevin a time or two, I personally love reading the SR stuff.
1959 E3 Gillette Fat Boy on 6 Vulfix Super Badger (660) Georgetown G12 Scuttle Noxzema Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #2 with the Super-Max Super Platinum in my '59 Fat Boy set to 6. 2 Full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck. Pass 2: ATG. Comfortable shave. Not as close as yesterday at this point just a near DFS, so did an additional 1/2 pass on my neck. Then did cold water rinse followed by touch up. Seemed BBS at this point. The Aqua Velva stung a bit but settled down quickly. A very near BBS from the Super-Max Super Platinum in my Fat Boy. Even though I did an additional 1/2 pass in an effort to get closer on my neck, the baby slipped away. I can still detect very short stubble in a couple of my trouble spots. I'd say 98% BBS. No else one would ever notice. I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone else’s equipment, so now, I present to you my Razors of September:
09/02/2015 Razor – Wolfman OC with Triad Helix SS Blade – Feather (3) Brush – Rudy Vey with TGN Finest Lather – MdC Fougere Post - Witch Hazel & Fine Platinum Another fantastic 3 pass near BBS shave this morning. I just can't get over how smooth and efficient this Wolfman OC razor shaves. It is much less likely to bite than the ATT R2 I tried out but at the same time even more efficient. Finished off with a splash of Fine Platinum and I am off to the Orthopedics for a follow up on my lingering back issues. Hope everyone has a great day.
SOTD September 2, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber Handle Blade: Feather SuperPro Brush: Stirling Synthetic Lather: Catie's Bubbles Le Marche Du Rasage (LMR) Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Fine Platinum Holy moly!! Sometimes we need a little encouragement in shaving to take the next step, thank you @clint64 for the blades and encouragement! I used a Feather SuperPro for the first time in the Mongoose, up until today I've been staying with milder blades. Three pass smooth as silk and as close as a shave I've ever had. Ever. I wonder if I'll need to shave tomorrow? The Fine aftershave actually stung when I applied it. I likey! Caties is a fantastic soap! Great value. I hope you find relief today Clint at the doctors.
