SOTD September 13, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber Handle Blade: Feather Professional Lather: MdC Brush: Stirling Synthetic Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Fine Clean Vetiver My Gold Standard Shave. IMO MdC is the best soap on the market. The Mongoose is the best razor on the market. YMWV smooth shave! I've decided that the Feather Pro blade is the blade for me. I continue to be mindful of the three pass and out shave, I've yet to have any irritation following this rule. Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE
SEptember Focus - Single Edge Razors Still working with my Model G injector. My initial shave was wonderful, close and comfortable. Then I had a couple just plain crappy shaves. I had 2 blades in a row that appeared to do nothing, or very, very little. I even tried the razor on the back of my arm (lots of hair there) and it did absolutely nothing. I couldn't get it to shave anything. Then I tried a 3rd blade and...ta da...great shave! Is it possible that a blade can be loaded in the dispenser upside down or backwards or something or just be a crappy blade? Saturday and Sunday shaves were nice, effortless DFS shaves. What I like about the injectors is their light weight and maneuverability. Unfortunately, I've run out of blades (except for some still in an ancient dispenser which I'm afraid to use). I have to order more, but when this one runs out I'll have to switch to my Star SE for a completely different learning curve! By the way...GO BROWNS! They may not win, but...
The Crazy Ivan in SEptember! September 13 Razor - Feather SS Artist Club/1959 Gillette Ball End Tech Blade - (2) (2 2/3) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - TSD Lanolin Bay Rum Post - Cold Water, Alum, The Veg Sunday morning so it's Feather SS time again as the Crazy Ivan spins wildly around. Throwing something else in today...TSD Lanolin soap that I just got. First time using it so hey, why not try it when I'm using the razor I'm most likely to kill myself with? Let's add as many variables as possible. Just how I roll. using the Kamisori blade for the second time. This Canadian made blade is less expensive than Feather and Kai and produced a decent result last week. A bit duller, and a bit tuggy but it didn't cut/slice/dice/behead so we'll give it another run. I did grab the BoS because I wanted to see how it worked with the TSD Lanolin. It's the best match for MWF so I'm thinking it will work equally as well with this. And, of course, all of this happened following my normal Sunday head shave with my Merkur 23c with an Astra SP and VDH deluxe soap and brush. Soaked the BoS like always and started loading the TSD. Really great scent on the bay rum. Nice and spicy, clovey (if that's a word), just all around great bay rum type smell. Seemed like it loaded well after giving the brush a good shake from the soak and the first lather was really really nice. Quite impressed. Cushiony, felt like the same slickness as MWF which is not quite as slick as Tabac but still better than most. Grabbed the Feather SS and started down the right check and began adjusting to overcome the tugging. Shallowed the angle a bit and it improved, but still pretty tuggy. More than I remember last week. Managed to get the right side done and went to the left. Yeah, this blade is not going to be a long term solution at all. Too much grab and pull even though it gets a nice result. Finished the first pass with no cuts/nicks etc., but just didn't like the feel of the blade. Rather than work with a less than ideal situation with this razor I'm bailing out. I have the '59 Tech with Vietnamese Gillette in it so let's give it the rest of the shave. Relathered without reloading and it was ok, not quite as rich as the first time and it was dissipating a bit. Still got the second pass done without a problem. Wanted a full third pass, partly to get the shave where I wanted it, partly to work one more time with the soap. I dipped the brush in the mug to wet the tips, went back to the soap to reload and BAM!!!!!! Lather shot up. There we go, it likes more water than I gave it to start. Produced an absolutely magnificent lather. Cushy, thick, slick with a nice slick residue, I mean just perfect. As good as MWF or Tabac. Third pass was smooth sailing even with a full ATG and the G-slide on the neck. Fantastic finish. I'll remember to use more water to start next time to get this the entire shave. Finished with a very nice DFS, alum provided zero burn. Amazing considering neither blade is top notch, but the lather really protected and did its job. Skipped the Nivea and went straight to the Veg. No burn there either and my face is as smooth and comfortable as it has ever been. Hope your Sunday is a fun day and that the skies are as blue as they are here. Mid 70s today so maybe Autumn is trying to make it in and clear out the heat and humidity of a St. Louis summer. Might even get the bad guys to stop shooting so much too. Nah, that's all just part of the charm of our little piece of paradise. Enjoy the day!
Happy Sunday Everybody! I will be continuing my focus later today, but will not be posting or reading the board until much later tonight. I hope everyone has a great afternoon!
Herm, anything is possible but my guess is the blade rubbed against the guard loading and buggered it up. It's happened to me a couple of times.
Prep: hot shower with Stirling Glastonbury soap Pre shave: water from soap puck Soap: Crown King Jabon de Guillermo Brush: Stirling Kong Razor: Schick G1 Blade: Schick China (2) Post: alum, Stirling Lemon Chill WH/aloe Aftershave: Floid Vigoroso Decided to try the Crown King Jabon de Guillermo (Williams soap) as it is supposed to smell like vintage Williams. The performance was very good. Slickness, cushion, glide all great. Scent? Awful. I don't remember Williams smelling like Arko but I won't have to worry about mosquitoes today. This soap will probably go into a PIF pile. Otherwise great shave, 3 passes and touch-up, cold rinse, alum, witch hazel, and more touch-up. BBS, no irritation and a splash of Vigoroso to finish. Lots of faceturbating going on. And for you poor saps who have to hit the salt mines in the morning, have a great week.
Have you noticed that Clint doesn't have a CT yet? It's hard to believe that he hasn't gotten himself into any trouble during his first year here.

Razor: Valet Auto Strop Model "C"- 1935-40/ Gillette 1958 TV Special(6) Feather blade) Blade: Valet New Process (6) Brush: Frank Shave Best Badger Beechwood Handle 22/55 Soap: TSD Coconut A/S: TSD Coconut Day 13 Another great shave with the Valet Auto Strop Model C Razor. I strop it 5 times before I shave and I find that gets me through 2 passes no problem. Cleanup with the Gillette 1958 TV Special and I'm good to go. The TSD Coconut Soap is outstanding as is the Coconut A/S.
After seeing some of the professional photos that get posted at TSD, it got me thinking. Thanks very much for the complement.
When these run low I'll refill them, I like the older bottles to. That shark picture is off the hook! Have we heard from @Seabs yet! ^^^ Edit: I was working my way up!
