    SEtember G1 Revisited

LPL Savon du Barbier & Omega 98
Schick Type G1 and a fresh Chick
Alum / Shulton Old Spice AS

    SOTD 09132016.gif
French soap, Italian brush, Japanese bowl, Chinese blade in an American razor. Reviews of this soap offer so many contradicting opinions about the scent. Some find mint, rosemary, & sage. To me nothing but dill pickles and I'm OK with that. There have been problems reported with rusting tins, but mine was PIFed in a stainless steel IKEA Grundtal. Great pickle flavored lather that doesn't dissipate, always slick. Schick injector type G1, courtesy of a trade with John @John Ruschmeyer with a carefully loaded new Chick blade performed very well. Three passes + a bit of S-slide left no doubt that I like this unit. A shave reminiscent of a Bunny Pass Around BBS. An alum swipe caught my attention, especially under my chin and neck. As I understand Schick aggressiveness older tend to be more so. Finished with Shulton Old Spice. Many of my shaves happen in my late evening. I'm thinking this one could be good for more than a day.

Back on focus. Today is the first day of a long holiday weekend so I want a great shave. While the Koraat's first shave was very nice I felt the edge could be better so I touched it up on my 12k and 16k stones followed by some pasted strops.

I could tell right away this shave had the potential for epics results. Four passes and zero feedback from the alum. Faceturbating revealed a great start to the long holiday weekend.

    Irritation A+ Closeness A+ Smoothness A+ Sharpness A

No matter what type of razor I use I prefer a heavier razor. In straights it is even more so, I do not feel like I have precise control with a light razor while a heavy razor gives me the confidence I can even make the smallest of adjustments.

Crystal rocks in a shavette. Very very sharp, yet smooth too. I am coming to the conclusion that blades don't mean as much in a shavette. No idea why this is. Adidas Dynamic Pulse is about $7 and I bought it a grocery, so count it. I am in my garage smoking a pipe...it's a beautiful 57F evening on the prairie! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Very nice. I see that parallel rabbit hole of the early SE razors is pulling you in, just as assuredly as did the one leading to injectors. I see a lot of great shaves and great learning for those of us observing coming your way!

    Pity.
That razor is my favorite DE since learning DE shaving May'16.
I'm not sure, but I had it in my mind that it's either that razor or the Techs that are vulnerable to cracked handles. The stripped threads could turn it into a total loss. But I have seen some decent epoxy repair jobs if you don't opt to try to find a replacement. Good luck, but if it were me I'd look to find a nice straight specimen. It's a razor I'll never let go of.

Glad you liked the Damaskeene. Very cool and rare OC model. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it for both SEptember and OCtober.

Another great 3 pass shave today. After minimal clean up I ended with a near BBS. For me the Cobra Classic provides a closer shave but I still enjoy using the big Goose. Finished off with a splash of F&C Capri. I hope everyone has a fantastic Wednesday.

What a great shave this morning. I am not sure, but I think this was the first time I had used this razor with a Chick blade. It was nice and smooth. I have one little spot right up against my ear that keeps this from being a BBS, but it was definitely a DFS. I wrapped it up with a little Clubman VI Bay Rum, and my day is off to a great start. I hope everyone has a great day!

    Henckels Rapide / GEM Stainless
    Stirling Executive Man
    Stirling 24mm Synthetic
Tangerine and Tea Tree AS & Nivea Sensitive ASB

This morning I decided to try my Henckels Rapide loaded with a Gem blade. This was my fist time using a Gem blade and all I can say is WOW, very impressive! Using the wet loading method with the Stirling 24mm didn't work quite as well as it does with the Satin tip, the Stirling just holds way too much water. By the time I got enough soap loaded to equalize the amount of water in the brush I had enough soap to shave a buffalo. As I started face lathering I was flinging soap all over the bathroom, in the end though it did produce en excellent wet slick lather. Lots of audible feedback from the Gem as I kept the retention clip of the Rapide touching my face at all times. The Gem had no problems with my coarse chin whiskers, this is the kind of sharpness I am looking for in my wedge blades. Please tell me this level of comfort can be achieved with the wedge blades. Three passes was probably a bit overkill but the baby was waiting for me at the end and my face feels amazing. Have a great day my friends!

    Razor: M3 Schick Adjustable (6)
    Blade: Chick (3)
    Brush: VdH Boar
Soap: Marvy + Dove Hydrating Cream

Second shave with the M3 set at '6'. One minor change today was a slightly different shaving pattern with the idea of trying to get a bit more XTG exposure.

The M3 at '6', to me, is aggressive but in a good way. I'm not sure I want to go all the way to 8 (9?) anytime soon, but I can see why the folks on the passaround really like this razor. I definitely need to get some Twins at some point.

Except for one small area, the new pattern seemed to work well and, all in all, a DFS for the day.

    Razor: GEM Micro-matic Open Comb
    Brush: Vulfix 2006c badger
    Lather: Vulfix Lavender cream
Post: Witch hazel splash, Speick, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Nice shave earlier this morning. The Vulfix Lavender cream face lathered into rich, beautiful lather. It's very slick and moisturizing. The GEM MMOC mowed through the whiskers with ease. The jury is still out on that razor for me. My skills are improving but I can easily get irritation and weepers with it. More time and technique refinement is needed.

Nice shave in end. Hope you have a great day!

    Thayers Witch Hazel
    WSP Blackbeard with menthol

Possibly the final head to head for my SE razors this morning. If the 1914 wins it's over. First, these WSP products are fantastic. I really love this Blackbeard scent. I lathered up a nice bowl and used my 1924 on the right side and the 1914 on the left. Again the 1914 was smoother but not by much. I think there was more reduction with the 1914 but again not by much. After three passes I'm dolphin smooth. Going to the alum both sides were completely silent. It's now been 6 hours since I shaved and I'm still BBS everywhere. Maybe in a couple hours we'll have an answer. Have a great day folks!

    Astra Superior Platinum Blade.
Aqua Velva Ice Blue Aftershave Splash

So the threads on the inside of my handle are toast (I'll start another thread on this) so I tried a ball handle and it fit. So although I cannot complete 30 shaves with the same razor / blade combo, it is all the same except the handle. No biggie. Loaded up the big boar and lathered for 2 passes wtg / xtg. Much better shave than yesterday. I assume the tightness of the cap effects the blade angle. Good enough for a DFS on a Wednesday.
