First, glad to hear that your wife and you are both recovering from those nasty-sounding sinus infections you had. Best wishes for speedy full recovery for both of you!

Second, I would echo the others -- great photo and a most entertaining report today!

Question: why was the AS flyball caught? That particular one not a homerun? Does it come close? If not, where does it fall down?

Sounds like Electric Sheep would be worth trying too, at least in sample size.

I have two versions of Palmolive cream tubes - Palmolive Classica and Palmolive for Men. Both are excellent. I figured the shave stick would just be more of the same in slightly different format. Now that James added some to his package though, I can see that it isn't. The Classica tube doesn't have the ingredients listed on it but the other one does. Looking at the respective lists, I see all have palm oil in them, but the shave stick is also a tallow product while the cream is purely vegetable oils.

I think I will try comparing the cream and stick tomorrow. Maybe half the face with each?

I heard Port au Prince is a vetiver scent, is that right?

I don't have the Classica in cream form. I have the Palmolive Menthol in cream form and it is simply outstanding. I don't actually know if it is a tallow product or not. The label is in Italian, but I don't believe it is a tallow product.
Yes, it is Haitian Vetiver and Lemongrass. It is an overwhelming scent, imho.

Thanks for the tip. I like vetiver scents but I prefer not to have to tame my shave soaps and creams with a whip and chair. I don’t mind aftershave balms and splashes being somewhat louder because that is sort of expected, and I am careful about the ones I pick.

Electric Sheep is definitely worth a try. And yes, Port au Prince is Vetiver with a little Lemongrass. Glastonbury is Patchouli, Lavender, Oakmoss, Lichen, Frankincense, and Vetiver.

Thanks for the information. From what you and Jason @jtspartan have said, I am thinking that when I place a Stirling order with Canadian Blade Co. in the next month or so, I should add a tub of Sheep and samples of Electric Sheep and Glastonbury to my planned list; Port au Prince, no.

Might I ask why you are only considering Mutton formula Stirlings, John? I ask as there are many nice Stirling soaps in the regular base in virtually all categories (Cologne dupes, simple EOS, citrus scents, original formulas etc).
PS- Top of the Chain is also a Canadian distributor for Stirling.

    SEptember is a Stirling month!

    September 27
Razor - Type M Schick Injector
    Blade - [IMG]
    Soap - Stirling Black Ice
Brush - Stirling Two Banded Synthetic
    Finish - Alum

Hard to believe we're almost finished in September but here we are. Three days to go after tonight. It's been another good month around here and the SE razors have proven their worth! I can say the same for tonight's shave with the Type M Schick. I left it wide open and went for the baby and found it without even trying. It's just a matter of setting the angle, letting the razor do the work and guide it home.

I tried the Stirling Black Ice soap tonight. The official scent is Anise - so a nice licorice scent was strongly in the room. I'm a personal fan of black licorice so I really enjoyed the shave. Plus, lathering from a black puck that turned into the usual creamy goodness of Stirling is a nice visual. It's a beef tallow soap so the normal awesome performance and after-shave face feel is a part of it. I would definitely consider adding this as a full tub purchase. The menthol kick at the end is very nice too. Really leaves you feeling the cold.

Some notes ahead of the month-end. OCtober is, of course, open-comb razor month for the theme and I offered up Oleo as the potential theme soap for the month. If that's something you haven't heard of they are the makers of El Caballero. So - if you have any Oleo Soapworks products in your den, feel free to break them out for OCtober. However, since I suspect it's not as prevalent as some other brands (or have I missed something) I'm modifying it to "Oleo and Oddballs" for the soap theme. How does that work? Well, if you have an Oleo product you've got it. But if you have other soaps that don't get used much this could be their chance too. I have a few like that to add to the El Caballero for the month. Anyway, just some things to help you get ready if you want to play along with the theme. As always, of course, themes are optional.

    Have a great Friday tomorrow!

Meant to post this earlier today: To @Pete123, Happy Birthday!

Also, while I was out today, the postie tried to deliver a parcel from you. I can pick it up at the local postal outlet tomorrow afternoon. I am looking forward to having a full tub of your shaving soap and to trying your matching bath bars. Not to mention playing with the knife....

SEptember in Focus & on track

    Mystic Water Raspberry Lemon
    The King badger by @Vlasta
    Schick Type M at #6 of 8
Pinaud Lime Sec Eau de Cologne
SOTD 09272018.gif Got the new phone to adjust off infinity and into focus for a close up. Cooler temps finally reaching the Gulf coast so I thought about Summer scents getting pushed to the back of the cabinet. While I'm not suffering any AD's at the moment I'd like to have another MW soap for Fall & Winter. This one is quite flavorful so I'm hoping any other will be too. I gave the tub a good dribble of prehydration that got the surface glossy wet. Easy loading for the wide tub and fat knot. In keeping with my "Learning to Face Lather with a Cruiser Class Badger" Focus I left the bowl aside. Pasty at first, but with enough water and a well loaded brush I did achieve decent lather. Not what I can get from a boar or synth in a bowl but headed in the right direction. First and second passes weren't as good as third and clean up lather. The SE didn't have problems doing it's duty during any of my learning process. Mystic Water gives a decent slippery glide even when it's a little thick. Even better with enough water and agitation. Scored a no nick DFS every where but my lowest neck. Splashed on the Pinaud for dessert. A little alcohol burn gave evidence it's time to change blades. I've enjoyed a month's use of SEs & didn't find one I'm unhappy with.
    OC's next? Cool!
    Good Shaves Y'all!

I'm not, Jason. My only Stirling soap right now is the unscented Naked and Smooth. I hadn't really used it much before this month. Its slickness was an eye opener. So I decided to add a couple scented tubs and was planning on Iced Pineapple, Bay Rum and Vanilla Espresso Bean. Possibly the balms or splashes too. Only now that I have had the Mutton formula drawn to my attention, I am thinking of adding some of them too...

I hadn't heard of Top of the Chain before. I will have to look up its website. Thanks.
