Adam @Drygulch , Thanks again for the Jeeves Bay Rum, it was an excellent soap and will be missed! My time last month using my most aggressive razors prepared me for the MMOC quite well. Kept a feather light tough and stayed mostly on the cap and was rewarded with a very close smooth shave. The CVS CS blade has been working well and isn't showing signs of rust or discoloration despite me really not trying to keep it dry after my shaves. I did three passes and was just a few spots short of BBS. I finished with some Baxter ASB for some nice menthol cooling. Have a great weekend my friends!

TGIF!! (btw I'm still trying to figure out the format for showcasing photos of Declan)

Logan had his first Twinkie, we though he would get the filling everywhere. But he ate it slowly and methodically and didn't waste a crumb.

Thanks. I'm really dialing it in better each day. I'm already glad I took up this 30 day challenge. Today there was almost no sting from the AS.

Friday morning September 7 - Sample September

    Schick E2 / Personna (5)
JR #267 birdseye maple and Omega 49 boar brush
Hendrix Classics & Co. soap sample
    Alum

My sample from @Pete123 arrived in the mail yesterday, so naturally I had to use it today. The soap was squished a little in the envelope, but the waxed paper it was wrapped in kept it together well. Most of it peeled off the paper and the rest I was able to scrape off with a knife; I squished it back into a sort of a square and dropped it into a mug for use. The soap is about the same consistency as Cella or the other Italian soft almond soaps -- like a pliable putty. And like those soaps, it loaded and lathered very easily. I don't really associate the scent with barbershops, but then I am not a great expert on barbershop scents. The barbershops I have used here smelled mostly of Barbicide and, in the days when everyone smoked indoors, stale cigarette and cigar smoke. And the only other Barbershop soap I have tried is the Rockwell Razor version: it is a heavy-smelling mixture of leather, neroli, anise, lilac and cedar. And frankly, I don't care for it much -- I think it's the leather and the lilac in it that I find off-putting. The Hendrix barbershop scent by contrast seems quite cheerful. I thought it sort of smelled minty, but I see from the description that it's bergamot, basil, oakmoss and white patchouli. Whatever -- it's pleasant.

The boar brush easily loaded up and I got two good passes worth of lather from the brush. The soap seems quite slick and protective -- not as much perhaps as the Stirling soap but more than the Fendrihan vegan sample I used the last couple days. It allowed my injector to shave me with two passes to a BBS standard. The alum was silent. I didn't use any postshave products so I could assess the postshave feeling of the soap. Even with the alum used briefly after the soap and then rinsed off, my skin doesn't feel at all dry. It doesn't feel as nice as it does after I use a lanolin soap like MWF, but it's definitely better than the way it feels after using Arko or many of the drugstore creams.

Overall, I would say this soap is Good Stuff. I will probably buy a tub in the near future.

Hope everyone is having a good Friday leading into a great weekend!

Sometimes I pick up a razor and it just works for me. Other times, such as with the Vintage Gem razors it took time. The 30 days really work.

No shave yesterday as I decided to give my face a rest from the Gem. It's SE month and a Friday, so I went with an adjustable Injector for today. Nothing to say except that it was a pleasant shave with no issues.

Tomorrow is three years on this journey. If I manage to get in a shave, it will be with the J2 SuperSpeed that started it all.
