Razor - 1912 Gem
Blade - (2)
Soap - Stirling Iced Pineapple
Brush - Stirling Pro Style Synthetic
Finish - Alum

Another "on time" shave and report before I head out into the mean streets for the night. Ok, so they aren't that mean but it sounds better than saying I'm going on drunk patrol. I switched razors to the Gem 1912. Obviously closely related to the 1914 but something between the LC and 1914 style. Second shave on the Treet Super blade. The big Stirling brush and Iced Pineapple for an absolutely delightful lather. I put it on thick just so the scent lasts longer after the shave.

Three full passes and once again the baby is home. Might have brought a friend with him. It's that smooth. The blade was perfect and this razor is a bit more noisy than the 1914. I like that in a vintage SE. Not even a tingle from the alum. It's all good, perfect really, and a great break in the "middle" of my Saturday. OK, inquiring minds want to know. When you end up on the evening/late night shift, what percentage of your clientele are drunk?

 

Ummmm. Hmmmm. Let me think. It would be easy to say 100%, but you have to quantify it a bit more. I do pick up people going to or coming from work at times. So they take you a bit off the 100 mark. And then you have to determine what "drunk" is. I don't consider those who have just had a few drinks and call a ride out of caution to be drunk. Seriously drunk? Slurred speech? Loud talkers? Passed out at some point? Partially clothed? I'd say 60-70% fall into those particular categories.

 

Some were not silent. I told him he was the second person I had put on ignore.

 

Apparently going to the seafood counter and shouting "tharrrr she blowsss" is frowned upon too.

 

So went around today with a $1.00 razor from Dollar Tree with a blade from the pack. Not the smoothest blade but veddy nice when done. Who knew.....

 

Sunday Shave

I like bring out the big blades on the weekend and today's razor is a Silverloaf 8/8 with a 3/4 grind. Great minds think alike and like Joseph @Primotenore I used Castle Forbes.

Ok, I'm back and it's a bit earlier than normal but wow. I do believe, Mr. Cookie Doubter, that you are responsible for the night I just had. One little question about the percentage of drunks. Sounded so innocent. I mean, it's a curiosity thing, right? More like a curse tonight. My first passenger(s) were very shortly after my last reply. Picked them up about 5 miles away. Some old drunk guy, his wife and a woman named Rachel. Rachel, apparently, was just someone at the party they were coming from who he offered a ride to. Without booking one for her, naturally. Nope, just wanted me to take him and his wife to their hotel then drop Rachel off wherever she might live. Did I mention he put Rachel in the car first? In the front seat with me? Did I mention that she was so drunk she basically snored the whole time she was in my car? With her 20 bags she hauled in on her lap? Did I mention that when I told him to make the hotel a "stop" on the route and add Rachel's address as the final destination he did a discourse on how he couldn't possibly understand how to do that? Did I mention that when we arrived at the hotel I let him unload with his wife....then woke Rachel up as best as possible and asked her address so I could call a cab for her - only to have her just get out with her 20 bags and walk into the hotel lobby? And, finally, did I mention that I then drove off happily to pick up my next passenger? (and that story only gets better). I could tell you that was the low of the night but I'd be lying. Yep. I do believe your cookie-doubting butt worked some nasty ju-ju on me tonight. I'll be outside turning counter-clockwise while chanting Uuuuuuuuubberrrrrrrrrr......in order to lift the curse.
(On the positive side of things - the people tonight were quite over the line from most nights, but they all tipped like kings. So there's that)

 

I have a meat cleaver about that size. Sheesh. Beautiful blade though!

Oh yea...I forgot about the horror of crusty old razor pics.
