    SE Shave # 217

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb
    Blade: GEM Stainless
Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts 26 mm Tuxedo
    Lather: Declaration Grooming Darkfall
    Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Darkfall
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block
    Nivea Cool Balm
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original
    Declaration Grooming Darkfall EdT

Today is my first day home alone following the surgery. Anthony is at a school and the missus has returned to work. Unfortunately, I am unable to do much around the house. I am spending time sitting outside catching up on some reading. It is a beautiful day, low 70’s.

This morning’s shave featured one of my favorites scents, DG Darkfall. I will use it periodically throughout theses next few months. Additionally, it will make an appearance periodically during the Spring and Summer. I love the rustic feeling it provides throughout the day.

The MMOC completed a three pass shave without incident. The shave was close and comfortable, however, I will bin the blade. I started to sense a bit of tugging towards the middle of the shave. Looking at my notes, this turned out to be shave number 12 for the blade. I must has missed that information. I usually bin the GEM blades at number 10.

Tomorrow I have my first post surgery with the doctor. The bandage will be removed, therefore, I will have my first look at the incision. I am curious to hear his explanation for the minimal amount of discomfort in the pain department . Not that I am complaining, but I have heard about the horror show of pain when the nerve blocker suddenly wears off .

Hope you all have a great day gentlemen.

Thanks Jeff! She is the only stainless steel straight that I own and is a great razor. Glad you found a nice Filly. I gave up looking for one awhile ago.

Thanks! I have a hard time calling a modern razor a grail razor, but it is one heck of a good shaver (for me)! It has joined my permanent collection as it shaves that well. The ER 1924, Gem MMCP, MMOC, and Gillette LC NEW, New Deluxe, and New Improved are my others. Looking at the Hawk OC head, i think the spacing of the teeth is the issue for me. If it had another tooth or two (reducing the space between), I think it would be a much better razor.
