It's even more confusing when the blade says it's both.

I'm using the shark blade in my slant. It's still a painful shave. I'm still trying to finf 'the' blade for the Sterling Slant. I haven't tried the shark blade in any other razors yet. The Slant hasn't played well with any blade except Derby. And that's odd because only the Futur and Slant works with Derby. Outside of those two the Derby is no good in any other razor.

The search continues for that unicorn blade that works perfect in all razors.

I don't believe there is such a thing. I think the closest to a 'universal' blade I've found is the Astra SP, (Bear in mind I haven't tried THAT many blades) and it doesn't like the Piccolo.

I'd suspect that the oldest razors would work best with a Kai (the designed thickness), and the more recent ones prefer thinner blades.

We seem to be in the same minority. I hated my Vokshod, I still have another in the cabinet waiting to be tried sometime down the road. Wanted to like it but it was like shaving with sandpaper!

Voskhod is quite sharp, and like any sharp blade, scrapes up newbies like Feather. Blade reviews are largely useless due to a lack of objective criteria or scientific method, and the fact that most are written by new converts without adequate razor skills. Don't worry though, blades don't matter anywhere near as much as people like to pretend they matter.

I've come to realize this to be true over the last several months since I started this journey...all of it. I still, for whatever reason, love reading blade reviews. While I haven't tried a lot of different brands, they don't seem to differ greatly. I can notice some differences when I change, but they seem subtle. If I'm doing my job right, they all give a good shave. If I don't do a good job, then none of them give a good shave. I'm still learning technique, and have much more to learn - but it's getting much, much better. The Shark SS just so happened to be the first blade I used where some form of consistency must've kicked in. Four shaves in a row, and only one small nick - definitely my fault. No matter what, I never blame the blade - or the razor. They only do what I make them do.

In a way, DE razor reviews are almost pointless - for the same reasons. But, ya know - I'm gonna read 'em anyway! ;)

The best way to learn DE shaving is pick any razor, pick any blade and stick with it. Any combo will work once you learn how.

@Tim Spencer I have found that an Astra SP works best in my Merkur 37C slant but it is horses for courses like anything in this game for instance I have found Voshkods to be be one of the most smooth and forgiving blades out there: was my first 100 pack purchase along with Polsilvers (which may or may not be made anymore...still not got to the bottom of that one).
