@Alex7 Personally, I have never had a bad shave whenever I've dropped an Astra SP into any one of my 30-some-odd DEs. But that's me.
@Alex7 as you can see, different people can have different experiences with a given blade. If you are trying to determine which blades will work best for you, why not try a sampler pack? Here are a few online retailers that have both sampler packs and individual blade packs: Razor Blades Club https://www.razorbladesclub.com/ https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Razor+Blades+Club Maggard Razors https://maggardrazors.com/ Wish4blades https://www.wish4blades.com/ Connaught Shaving https://www.connaughtshaving.com/ If you do not want to use a pre-assembled sampler pack, you can always create your own by buying multiple different types of blade packs. In case it helps, blades on the aggressive side that have worked for me are: Gillette 7O'clock Super Platinum Gillette Platinum Gillette Rubie Platinum Plus Goodline Grooming Co. (from CVS drugstores) Permasharp Super
I just shaved with a Wilkinson Sword Classic and an Astra Superior Platinum blade. Got irritation after the third against the grain pass.
Three passes against the grain??? No wonder you got irritation. Fact is, some folks can't even make one pass against the grain without getting irritation. Each face is different.
i've been trying some different blades after starting out with astra sp.not a huge difference but bic chrome plat do seem a bit sharper.same for nacet and perma-sharp from russia.also like permasharp green from india.gsb very nice, too. i do find it hard to believe that blades coming from same factory but with different branding are really different.especially since they don't give specs such as super sharp, really sharp, medium sharp, etc.you'd think they label them that way out of factory.lol i understand how bic vs. nacet vs. permasharp green can be different since from different factory, but even among those i dont notice much difference. other forum now doing scientific study but very confusing spreadsheet and i don't understand what the different numbers mean.to me best is to try blade and throw numbers out window! i like to go against grain in everything i do in life!lol
yes they are very nice.i tried them first since seem highly recommended when first de shaving.could have stopped there but is fun to try different blades.plus i like collecting the different colored tucks!i can use all blades tried so far for 7 days then toss.maybe my beard is not tough like others!lol
anyone know why Gillette 7O'clock Super Platinum are so gosh darned expensive?other 7 o'clock from India(green) are not expensive.i like green.
Well nice thread. I find that every person is built differently from each other, noting beard and skin type. I think using the blade razor combination that suits them is the ultimate goal regardless of so called sharpness. I use what is recognized as very sharp blades and efficient ( called aggressive) blade holders. If a underrated blade in an underrated razor gives the shave you like. I say you found the perfect tool for you, use it to your harts delight. It took me quite a long time through many blades and razors to find mine. Sharpness isn't always better. Off the subject. I think technique is the key to a great shave. tp
agree.once razor gives positive exposure that should be enough.why do people think higher positive exposure is better.blade just needs to touch skin unless you want to remove layer of skin, lol.even with negative exposure blade touches skin because skin is flexible. underrated by whom?only matters what you think about how it shaves, not others.best picture winner is not always movie i like.sometimes i like movie that got bad reviews.my opinion just as valid as reviewer, lol.its my wallet--for movie or razor, lol. yes.second most important factor is technique.know what third most is(hint:starts with T)lol
Feathers, the Astra, Personna med prep and I heard the Bolsano are sharp to be sure but recently I tried a Supermax Platinum which I thought was surprisingly sharp and smooth. The blade reminded me a little of the Astra.
but astra is cheap enough anyway.i heard bic was as sharp as feather so i got bic.very nice.all blades seem to work for me anyway.i guess i'm just a lucky guy!
btw,why don't people use term 'lab blues' anymore they say 'comfort coated'.it always said that on box, what happened to jargon?
do really need graph to tell if blade is good or not,lol this is ridiculous:https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/blade-sharpness-research-project.652790/page-29 i can't make head or tails out of it,lol
