Shave of the Week Starting 6/19/2023 Gem Contour II razor Gem Stainless blade Yaqi Artic brush Dr. Selby 3X SC (it's a soap!) Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S (bay rum today) Looking thru my stash of stuff, came across the Contour and thought I should give it a try. It's been years since I used an SE and, low & behold, no blades. Went online and found a deal for 48 NOS Gem stainless blades for $8.00 with free shipping. Yeah for me! Since I can get 7-10 shaves from one of these, looks like I'm set for a year or so. And just picked up the Yaqi brush, it's got an Artic knot, soft yet good backbone and is gorgeous. I like it. And I always like Dr. Selby SC (it's a soap!) cuz it works well for me and smells lovely. Anyway, on the shave. It actually went well. The Contour II is mild but effective and, as I was careful with technique, the shave went well and excellent results were had. Think I'll continue on an SE journey after this week. Should be interesting and fun. So, my face is happy and ya'll should go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 6/26/2023 Gem Damaskeene razor Gem Stainless blade Yaqi Artic brush Proraso Green SS Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S The Gem/Gem combo felt very smooth but almost to mild. Had to do an extra pass/touch up to get the results I wanted. Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with this razor/blade combo yet. At any rate, the final results were just dandy. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 3 July 2023 Star razor Gem Stainless blade Franken brush Mama Bear's Lime Ice Shave Stick Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S Couldn't decide which brush I wanted to use this week so I'll alternate these two. The Franken brush is an "old" VDH badger brush handle with a TGN Silvertip knot. VDH had badger brushes back in the day but they were really bad, the knot sucked but I like the handle so I changed knots and now it's a good one. Just don't use natural brushes that much anymore. Maybe time to change my approach. The Mama Bear Lime Ice Shave Stick works very well and is frigid! The Star razor is a great one for me, always a smooth/comfortable/effective shave that I like. So my face is happy. Go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week (maybe) Starting 10 July 2023 Gem Featherweight razor Gem Super Stainless blade APShave Co synthetic brush Seaforth! Sea Spice Lime SS Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Seaforth! Sea Spice Lime A/S Tonic Like the way the Seaforth! SS works but this scent is not my favorite. And I have 2 of them, why did I do that? But I do like the A/S Tonic, it works great and smells a bit different than the SS. First time out with the Featherweight in far to long. It is very light but gave me a fine shave. And new Gem Super Stainless blades are SHARP! All is well though and my face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 7/24/2023 Gem Jr. razor w/baton handle Gem Super Stainless blade Omega 10066 boar brush TSD 2X Iced Lemongrass SS Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe TSD 2X Iced Lemongrass A/S My face is frozen. The TSD SS and A/S, along with Osage Rub turned me into an icicle! Hard to do in SE Louisiana in July. At any rate, a fine shave was had and my face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 7/31/2023 Gem G-Bar razor Gem Super Stainless blade PAA Amber Aerolite brush Vintage Renleigh SS Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S The Renleigh SS needs to wake up a little more and let loose of the protective lather I hope is in the puck. Lathered easily enough but didn't provide the qualities a good soap should. I'll give it a few days to wake up though. The G-Bar is easy to use and did the job quite well. But thank goodness for my Osage Rub/Witch Hazel mix cuz I needed the soothing effects it gives. All in all, a marginal shave to start the week. Hope it gets better. If not, look for an update. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 7 August 2023 Gem razor w/custom handle Gem Super Stainless blade Zenith B10 boar brush Yaqi Artic synthetic brush Nivea Shave Stick Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S Going to be an interesting shave week. Starting to use the Zenith boar that I think is broken in enough to use. Been doing the 3 day frig procedure along with a lot of hand lathers. Worked pretty well today though so don't know that I'll need the Yaqi which I chose as a back up in case the Zenith didn't perform well. The Gem, with the custom handle, worked well, mild and comfortable. I think the change of handle has made the Gem even more mild than it all ready was. And an admission, I turned the Nivea Shave Stick into a puck by grating into a sealable container. I like it better that way. BTW, the custom handle was made for me by Geg aka Gaw9576. But the results today? Pretty good and my face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 8/28/2023 Gem Damaskeene razor Pal blade Semouge Galahad brush Arko SS Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S Hmmm, not sure what to think this morning. Very mild shave resulting in a SSA. No matter what I did I couldn't get the result like I normally do. Now I have had the Pal blades hanging around for about 7 years. Will they lose their edge by just sitting around? Don't know. The Damaskeene is a mild razor (to me) regardless the blade used so not sure what to think. Anyway, time for y'all to go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 9/11/2023 TNNSER 3D razor PAL blade BurmaShave Boar brush Seaforth! Spiced SS Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Seaforth! Spiced A/S Toner Very nice shave to start the week with. Love the scent of the Seaforth! Spiced SS & A/S Toner, it's just lovely to my nose. And they both work very well. I'm always surprised when I use the BurmaShave Boar brush. It's broken in well and feels great on my face. It also does a great job of lathering. The TNNSER/PAL combo is a good one and all went well this morning. My face is happy and I smell terrific. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 9/18/2023 SNMIRN razor Gillette 7 0'clock super stainless blade RazoRock Plissoft brush Yardley SS Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S The SNMIRN razor has a slightly weird name but it works very well for me. I got this one a few years ago and it was only $9.99 shipped to me. At that price I thought it would be low quality but, surprisingly, it's pretty nice. A bit heavy but pretty well balanced and gives me a fine, comfortable, close shave. I like it. The RazoRock Plissoft brush is not my favorite, don't care for the handle but it works well. Great lather from the Yardley as always. So my face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 9/25/2023 Pal Adjustable injector razor Personna blade PAA Amber Areolite brush Lea Menthol SC Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S Been a long time since I used the Pal and it showed. My technique was a bit off but a fine shave was eventually had. My fault not the razor. All the other parts liked each other though and that's good. My face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.
Shave of the Week Starting 10/2/2023 Gem razor with custom handle Gem Super Stainless blade Whipped Dog Synthetic brush Williams SS (vintage) Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe Various A/S Mmm mmm good is the best way to describe today's shave. Vintage Williams is great and the Gem/Gem combo was smooth, comfortable and close. Again, mmm mmm good. My face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks
