I had two firsts last night...first time using Williams (so it's thee new stuff) and wanted to try face lathering. Went great! Loved the look and feel of the Williams lather and my cheapie little boar brush gave a rich, creamy and slippery lather. Enjoyed that cold water shave.
Welcome to the club. I am not a cold water shaver unless I have to be. I am almost exclusively a face lathering type and have a few smaller boar brushes that Williams loves too. I think I use them in a few of my shaving videos.
One of the great things about Williams is it's somewhat neutral scent. You can put a splash of after shave on top of it and leave it there while doing a hot water soak of your brush. When you lather up you get the great scent of your a/s ,when you are finished rinse the puck/container with cold water and you are ready for re-use.
I used Williams today for my straight razor shave and it produced a wonderful lather that was slick enough for my shave. Not the best soap out there, but certainly good stuff! I cannot really detect a scent from it, so I find it will work with any aftershave. Funny thing is that I donated 8 pucks to our latest raffle and I still have a lifetime supply of Williams in my den.
Awesome shave there Jim. I started to get those cakes....but I have enough to shave for ever already.
Same here, Usually use Aqua Velva, or Skinbracer. I also add about 4 drops of glycerine and that keeps my face from drying out after my shave. Clayton Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Hmmm... So Williams is not only difficult to get a consistent lather, smells like skeeter-be-gone, likes to perform disappearing acts half way through the shave, needs lots of water, is helped by adding drops of cologne, but it also dries out your face so it needs glycerin added? That's a shame. And so many other good soaps out there that don't have any of those issues. Just messin', of course. It's your shave. Enjoy it your way.
I used my Skinbracer induced and grated Williams puck this morning and enjoyed a near BBS smooth shave with my Schick adjustable injector that was loaded with a P-74 blade. Injectors sure can give a great shave. I had no problems whipping up a dense cushiony lather in my salsa bowl. I used my newly purchased Stirling 24mm. Tuxedo brush. I really like this brush. Williams Wednesday's Shave Proraso Pre Shave Williams Mug Jayaruh #144 Gillette New Improved Astra SP CWR Thayer's Lemon WH Barbasol AS I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Williams Mug Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #144 Badger brush. I did two passes with the Gillette New Improved and an Astra SP blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Barbasol AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

A fair amount. It's the soap I learned on, even before I had a brush. That makes it my benchmark for evaluating other soaps. I love the slickness, and for some reason, I don't seem to have any problems either with lathering it or with disappearing lather. I'm not scent-oriented, and at $0.99USD/puck in my local Wegman's, it's about the cheapest soap out there.
