I had another great shave with the Williams this morning. Made and applied an awesome lather with my Semogue SOC, Removed it with my 1955 Redtip that was loaded with a Personna Blue. Man I forgot how smooth and comfortable those blades can be, even after 3 shaves it was still plenty sharp. Followed up with a nice splash of Skinbracer. If Williams shaving soap was smart they would of just improved what they have and come out with a few new improved different scents(sandal wood?) soaps and they could at least compete with the avalanche of artisan soap manufactures who are going to beat them out of business. Management did not have the right strategy(being the least expensive soap) that was evolving in front of them folks wanted great lather at a reasonable price. I used Williams soap years ago and it was not as good as Gillette gel goop, maybe it has improved lately. I found the lather was to thin no matter what i did years 30 yrs a go before the internet became common place with great forums like this.
Williams has been around for so long for a reason. It is a solid working man soap. It does not need anything else. All the junk added to make newer stuff lather easy is kinda like training wheels. Even the newer stuff that does not have tallow first lathers great. If you can't drive a standard don't blame the clutch.....more practice maybe??
Ron, I had problems getting a good lather with the Williams until I gave it a little more water and did a heavier load on my brush. From what I'm reading it looks like you need to load your brush a little more. I do have soft water but I can now imitate a lather that looks and acts like Mitchells Woolfat with the modern Williams. I do admit that you do have to work the lather a little more than you do the vintage stuff to get to that type of lather, but hey that's part of the fun of this hobby. Clayton

Had an EXCELLENT shave with Williams soap this morning. Baton handle Treet (closed comb) 1912 and a Gem SS. Super slick and great post-shave feel. I can't really understand why there's so much animosity for this soap. Now that I've figured out the lathering technique this suff performs WONDERFULLY!
Awesomelicious signature shave today. The B400 by Tom was just super....new treet blade rocked....and the AV was steller!!
Williams Wednesday's Shave Proraso Pre Shave Williams Jayaruh #144 Badger Schick F Schick Proline B20 CWR Thayer's Lemon WH English Leather I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Williams Mug Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #144 badger brush. I did two passes with the Schick F with a Schick Proline B20 blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then English Leather AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
