Yep. There are a few of us walk to the beat of a different drummer, instead of being another Apple drone.
That's what I am talking about. Not to sound too stupid, but I don't know how to get the image of my lock screen. I'm not the most tech savvy person around.
Why? I've had an iPhone for many, many winters and am kinda married to iTunes. What would entice me to switch? Not looking to start a snark-fest... I am genuinely curious.
It's fast and stays fast, even on lower end hardware, which also means phones are often cheaper than other OS. It's stable, never had a crash or the like in over s year. It's easy to use, live tiles are awesome and creating a custom start screen is way better than having a bunch of pages of static icons. It's intuitive, it took me 10 minutes to figure out 90% of the settings, I find the iPhone to be very frustrating when it comes to finding settings. The apps generally look and work better than other platforms. Thats subjective though. Overall it's just nice to use and gets better with every mine and major release. I never got into iTunes so that wasn't something that I had to consider, if you are invested in it then switching to a different OS becomes more tricky.
I've used both the Iphone and WP. My wife still has the Iphone. It never ceases to aggravate me on how "non-user friendly" the Iphone really is. For example, deleting voice mail. My wife must have 200 sitting on her phone and you have to delete them one at a time. Then they go to a "deleted" folder where you can finally get rid of them. I find the WP more "intuitive", meaning the way it does things just make more sense to me. That being said, Apple and Android are light years ahead in marketing and app development.
I love my Windows Phone. an iPhone wasn't really an option for me because I'm not willing to pay such a high amount for just a phone especially since I have T-mobile and have to buy a phone outright. I replaced my Samsung Galaxy SII which I hated with a Huawei W1 which I got new unlocked for only $80 and it is dual core. Way better than any cheap android phone at the same price point (or twice as expensive price points). You can increase the storage to 32GB for just $20. Something you can't do with an iPhone . The Nokia Lumia 635 was just released. It is only $130 no contract with a quad core processor and Windows 8.1 which features Cortana voice assistant. My Huawei W1 is much more stable and has a much more responsive user interface than both Android phones I've had. Battery life is 2-3 times better. Compass apps actually work. Offline GPS directions. Huge plus IMO. Integration with Onedrive- pictures or documents I have uploaded to the cloud from my computer will show up as files on my phone. I got 100GB free by using Bing rewards (simply using Bing instead of google for searches) + 15GB just for signing up for a free Onedrive account. I can use the Windows Phone App on my Mac to sync music from iTunes. There are some subtle things like being able to change music tracks while the phone is still locked. I couldn't (or at least couldn't find a way of) do that with my Galaxy SII. I see some pictures of peoples Android phones here with the weather as a lock screen. I didn't even know I could do that with my Android in the years I've owned them. I quickly figured this out on my Windows Phone. I can delete bloatware easily without jailbreaking. Cons: It doesn't play as well with my Mac as it would with a Windows machine. It is MTP- windows has native support in its file browser (its version of Finder whatever it is called). Mac doesn't. So with my prior android phone I could see it as a USB flash drive. I now have to sync. ebooks don't show up on my Mac because the Windows Phone app for Mac has no syncing for ebooks. It won't be a problem with a Windows PC but I hate desktop Windows... I can still see ebooks I upload to Onedrive though and ebook readers have the ability to import books from there. Lack of apps. It has only 2% market share compared to the 40%+ Android and iPhone have so there isn't as much developer interest to make some social apps in particular. It has all I need though. And some apps such as Snapchat (which I doubt many people here use) have unofficial apps which work very well. There is no official youtube app either. No problem since you can just add the site "m.youtube.com" as a live tile. But to some people this a serious issue. I think this is the main reason for the lack of adoption of Windows Phone.
One more thing. Anyone of you guys have a Nokia Windows Phone? Nokia has a polarizing screen exclusive to some of their phones that is supposed to increase screen readability outdoors. http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/02/02/clear-black-and-super-bright/ I'm wondering if this really works.
I have worked in the telecommunications industry since the early 90s and have literally had nearly every type of cellular phone ever produced. Currently and for the foreseeable future an Android user. For many, many reasons. When my mother wanted to get a touch screen phone finally, I got her an iPhone 5c. For many reasons. I have had several Windows phones over the years. I loved my Windows phones. Windows phones will never have a large market share. Simply because they came too late to the party. Microsoft actually had a viable mobile operating system YEARS before anyone else, and repeatedly shot themselves in the foot. Over and over. When Apple entered the market, they failed to make a significant effort. When Android nearly took over the market, again Microsoft failed to make a significant effort. Now it's really too late. It's not that they don't make an excellent product. They do. Like I said I loved my Windows phones. Each iteration got better and better. But, very few vendors would make accessories for them, and worse, very few developers would jump on board leaving users to craft kludgy workarounds. That's no way to build a market share. In a nut shell - I agree with all of the positive things you like about Windows phones. Unfortunately all the negative things I've said are just as true, and are what will keep Windows phones from really succeeding.
Search for what pic you want to use. Save pic to library. Go to photo album, choose pic. Left bottom, square box with arrow, touch. You'll see on the bottom use as wallpaper.
Got the Huawei W1 unlocked from this seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141293771405?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I'd much rather get the Nokia 635 $130 (tmobile locked off contract) http://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Nokia-Lumia-635-Contract/dp/B00LIWB34Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406597865&sr=8-1&keywords=nokia 635 though for its slightly better battery life, better camera (the one on mine is pretty crappy), Windows 8.1 (as opposed to 8.0), Cortana, and quad core processor, and polarized display. I would have gotten that one but it was released shortly after I ordered the Huawei .
You could just upgrade to 8.1 now. It runs great on the W1 from what I hear, and you'd get Cortana and all the other good stuff in 8.1.
I've got an HTC 8X with Verizon. I WISH I could upgrade to 8.1, but I have no idea when they're going get it going.
I have the Verizon 8X and have been running 8.1 for a few months. That's another great thing about Windows Phone, you can get the OS upgrades direct from Microsoft before the carriers push them down. PM me if you want to know how, this thread is kind of going off topic!
