I am curious myself. The only thing that has kept me away from using hair tonics is the high alcohol content. As I have fine/thinning hair, I have always been cautioned against using hair products with alcohol.
Florena hair tonic with herbs (unfortunately ot made anymore) Balea for men hair tonic One of the two above after shower. That's all.
Pashana...Pashana...Pashana. I keep my hair short....so have no requirement for hold or styling. Pashana Bay Rum Pashana Original Pashana Blue Orchid Friction Lotion. All contain EOs which condition the Scalp. The Pashana Original is particularly good.
I use Clubman Greaseless Hair Tonic when my hair is short (it seems to have some sort of thickening agent). When my hair gets longer, I switch to the Eau de Quinine. Lately, I've found myself rubbing either Brylcreem or Wildroot into my hair, and then thinning it out with the Quinine -- makes for a nice balance.
Thank you, Rich! Thanks for the compliment, but I'll have to work on my "bad influence" skills I guess.
I was a little reserved about using the Pinaud tonic because of the alcohol. My problem is that I tend to have oily skin and prone to getting flake issues even though I keep my hair short. After trying the Eau de Quinine tonic, I love the stuff. Makes my scalp feel great and I haven't had any problems with dandruff since. The scent is one you have to really sample for yourself, it's unique enough (to me at least) that I can't think of anything comparable you might be familiar with. Unfortunately I can't get it locally however, last time I was visiting my mom there's a drug store there that had tons of Pinaud stuff. Next I go back I'll be loading up!
I really like Pashana eau de Portugal w/o oil. my hair is short and this product works great without leaving a greasy look. It smells great too!
My hair is thick, with a little gray mixed in, so I guess you might say, hard to control. I've been using the American Crew Fiber, as has very little shine, and provides a lot of hold. I use a very small amount, maybe a snoodle smaller than a pea, rub into my hair after the shower when wet. Then brush and thats it. Works very well, if you are looking for something with very little shine.
I use that on ocassion as well. It sure does keep everything in place for the whole day. It could use a little shine though.
