If I may through a monkey wrench into this... :o

I get much better lather (amount and quality) from TGQ creams than I do with TGQ soaps. It's been a while since I tried TSD creams so I can't really remember how they compare. I will say that TSD and TGQ soaps are both excellent products. I do, however, think TSD soap has a slightly slicker lather.

Of course, all standard caveat abbreviations apply.

Don't read emotion into my posts that I don't represent with smilies.

Just because Will doesn't like my cream doesn't mean it is bad.

Check here for other people's opinions.

Keep in mind that "par" changes from person to person. Each individual has specific set of demands, characteristics and ingredients that they look for in a soap or cream. As a soapmaker, I have slightly different standards than most people because I know what I am looking for in the performance and make of a soap either in Cold Process milled soap(tallow or vegetable base) or Melt and Pour(aka glycerin soaps).

If you want an answer to your question...try as many soaps as you can and make your own mind based on the characteristics you are looking for in a soap or cream. Later you can sell whatever product you do not like, someone will buy it from you.

Btw, Will, thanks for an honest answer.

Joanna, I have investigated the products from you and Colleen too darn much to believe that either one is anything other than top notch. I have even received numerous PM's on "The Other site" regarding how good your creams are. Of course, PM's are my only way of communicating with the fellas over there anymore.......anyway.

Unfortunately, I cannot make anymore purchases until I sell a couple things that I already have. :( (I will be posting that in a few minutes in the appropriate forum) The wife is pretty mad already about the money I just spent on three more 2"x2"x12" AA grade Lignum vitae blanks. :ashamed001 With her being due in a week, we need all the actual cash we can muster. My spending money is limited to what I have in my Paypal account. Right now, that is a big
    "0"!! :eek::eek::eek:

Hopefully the items I am trying to unload go quickly!!

    Regards,

    Jason

    Thank you.

Not everyone is a fan, and that's alright.

Personally, I prefer my cream over my soap. My preferences do tend to lean towards creams for the most part anyway.

And I enjoy both Colleen's soap and cream, too, and they are top notch indeed.

Oooo....it's almost baby time! Yeah! Is this your first?

  11. Hi there,
I'm very familiar with Colleen's soaps, having used them for well over a year now. I've also ordered multiple times from JoAnna in the last six months or so, and I've gone through a bunch of her soaps in that time. I've tried many other vendor's products, including larger companies like Tabac, Floris, IK, etc. I feel I have a good handle on what works for me and why.
So.......... going by performance only then: I would have to say they are pretty close in terms of providing an excellent, friction free shave. In addition, both products leave my face feeling refreshed and none the worse for wear after being facially threatened with a sharp blade.....heh. Yeah, as you know, the lather is what helps keep that blade from pulling instead of gliding, what keeps the razor head floooooooooowing, instead of sticking suddenly (which as we all know is not good...heh). I'd rate both soaps about the same when it comes to that part of the shave. They are soaps I've used many times, and I have a very small rotation.
Slickwise, they are different. Does that make sense after what I just typed? Well, the TGQ soap seems to have more slip(?) to it, which I only notice when rinsing my face between passes........feels more slippery that JoAnna's does. The thing is, there's no evidence of that difference with the actual shaves with em both. Who knows, maybe TSD soap has more cushion (whatever the hell that is), which maybe has the same effect.......hehe, I have no idea.
Skincare wise, I'd have to call it almost a draw there, with maybe a slight nod going to Colleen. You know, this is so odd to be typing about these two vendors. Of all the soaps I've used, Colleen and JoAnna make some of my very favorites. Hehe, thank God I like JoAnna's soaps as I do........you never know till you try any new product, and it's nice to post positive things if possible. They ARE different from Colleen's, as you can easily tell by how it looks. Plus, it uses a little more water than Colleen's does.
Anyway, I'd rate both of these soaps near the top, for providing that refreshed sensation after my 4+ passes. Much better than many other products I've tried. Never any sort of irritation during or after the shaving experience.
So, that's the short version........hope that helps a bit.
    Martin

Hehe, it was tough, but I didn't get into the good prices or the fragrances........ some of those are pretty tasty..........whew.

I agree, both of those are near the top of my list, along with other handmade soaps... Not only are they great soaps, you also know that they are made by people that have a passion for their products!

Joanna, My wife has a daughter from her first marraige that I now raise as my own. She calls me daddy, and I love her more than mere words can relate. However, this will be my first biological child. I am elated and terrified all at the same time!!

Here is my personal favorite pic of Breanna and I. It was taken a few months ago with the wifes camera phone.

Yup. We are pretty well stocked up on the essentials, but are holding off for most of the clothes until the baby arrives. That is a big reason that we are saving up our $$!!

The wife and I agreed on the Paypal deal. As soon as some more knots come in and I get this wood, I will have a few brushes on the market. Silvertip w/ lignum vitae handles.....
