Kicking off a dedicated thread for shaves of the day using an adjustable razor! Feel free to post your adjustable shaves of the day here as well! Whether it is a Gillette Fat Boy, a Rex Ambassador, a Schick or PAL or Parker adjustable injector, a Gibbs... any and all adjustables*! *(for purposes of this thread, this does not include "adjustable" razors like Gillette Old Type, Famex, etc. that are adjustable just by loosening the knob. ) Today's moment of adjustable zen featured: Pearl Flexi adjustable DE razor NOS vintage Schick Super Stainless Steel Krona Comfort Edge DE blade Art of Shaving Bergamot & Neroli Essential Oils Shaving Cream 1930s Rubberset 400-4 "adjustable" brush restored with a TGN Silvertip Grade A badger knot Being honest, this is probably the best and most efficient razor in my whole rotation. At least until my 1936 Gillette open-comb Aristocrat returns back to me after it is revamped and replated in rhodium. Today's Pearl Flexi adjustment was at №. 4 for the full head, face and neck shave. It slalomed wonderfully and Olympic-aly through the fine lather and lubrication provided by the AoS bergamot & neroli essential oils shaving cream. Not much to expound on in regards to the Schick Super Stainless Steel Krona Comfort Edge blade as IMHO, it's the best DE - and injector - blade ever manufactured. The Rubberset 400-4 brush head restored with a silvertip grade A badger knot is an amazing, fluffy pillow of perfect softness that wicks and holds lather über efficiently. A BBS finish all over, including the head, was obtained. A superb moment of zen today!
Where'd you source the knot? I've got a boar knot for my Tom's B400 but I'm thinking it could use a High Mountain Badger playmate. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
It's from TGN - The Golden Nib. Always have gotten great knots from them over the years. I believe @Enrico is using them now as well.
And a correction: the Rubberset brush was restored with a silvertip grade A badger knot from TGN, not a high mountain silvertip badger knot from TGN. I forgot I wanted the high mountain silver tip but they were out of stock so I went with the grade A silver tip. Reckon I have just had the high mountain on my mind ever since receiving my Yaqi Aqua high mountain silvertip badger brush.
Yeah, you should remedy that. It's still my favorite of the bunch. I like mine so much it's being replated in Rhodium right now. You probably have the Toggle I'm missing though...
Haha nah. Just not that big a fan of the Gillette adjustables. I did have a Fatboy but sold it and not missed. If I acquire another it will be inadvertent (which is how I acquired my other Gillette adjustables). In part I'm intent on resisting the "you have to have a Fatboy" fanboyism. I figured. Seems they are the only ones left doing rhodium right now. Reckon they have $20,000 laying around. lol
