Hey GI, did you get the edge on that wedge worked out? I'll bet the Red Injun is still your go-to though!
If you check out my albums on my personal page under "SOTD" I've got it in a ton of pics-it's on the top row, 4th pic from the left-then on several subsequent ones. I love the brush-I got it from PC Woodwork and Pens-it's 24mm and about $75. It's held up very nicely.

My 2 week battle with a kidney stone that just wouldn't cooperate is finally over. I have a couple stitches on my left hand that prove you shouldn't handle sharp things while heavily medicated My shaving hiatus ended yesterday morning and it was a pleasure to mow down some serious growth; the Engstrom didn't flinch. Wedges in general, and this one in particular, strike me as very strange animals. The edge on it is good to go, HHT good, and I can't complain at all about the quality of the shaves but it just doesn't seem as crisp and responsive as my hollow grounds. I don't doubt that the wedge is every bit as sharp (if not a bit sharper) than the Imperial or the Red Injun but the shaves from the wedge just aren't as crisp. Unfortunately that's about as good as I can describe it. The wedge is plenty sharp and gives great shaves but it's just kinda there. The hollow grounds seem to much more aggressive. Really not unlike shaving with a 1912 Gem Jr. and then picking up a three piece Gillette Tech. Definitely nothing wrong with the 3 piece Tech but by comparison with the 1912 it just seems kind of anemic. Yeah, that's a good analogy.

Tuesday hot shower KMF mint SC 25 mm EJ silvertip Gillette NEW American Personna (2) Clubman VIBR I love Clubman VIBR don't get me wrong, it is one of my favorites in fact, but I swear I have read about the "cooling" effect peole speak of in the reviews and I get nothing but burn. Its not bad burn but you can certainly tell the clove oil is in the mix. It goes away and actually feels kind of good but cooling, I find it not. Sorry for the Yoda speak toward the end there.

I think you nailed it with the last two sentences GI. The heavier blades just don't give you the feedback and the feeling that they are cutting anything. That's true with the less hollow grinds as well. My S & G is a 1/4 - 1/2 grind and I can tell the difference between it and my Solingen full hollow. The S & G feels like a butter knife spreading the shave soap on my cheek but it's cutting so smooth and slick you can hardly tell it's cutting anything. I think it's all a matter of preference at that point and the choice of what blade geometry is a personal thing. (That's why we have some many razors in our collections!) I can't wait to get my Tiger wedge back from the honer to give it a try but, I really, really like the S & G 1/4 hollow blade. Those Sheffield blades are awesome cutters!
