    Saturday morning

    • Merkur HD
    • Voshkod (3)
    • Vulfix 404
    • Speick stick
    • Osage Rub for the frost
    • Skin Bracer Blue for the smell of it

Absolute BBS today with exception of a teensy weensy spot on my jawline. DAMN YOU JAWLINE!

I'm about halfway through another Voshkod except in a different razor, the HD instead of the slant, and so far, same results. Awesome blades. Next, I'm going to try the redtip. I figured I'd go one blade for its entire usable life in every razor I have and see if they all accept them well. So far, its looking good for the Voshkod.

Bill (Dridecker), I have had similar results with the 7 O'clock Permasharp...I'd say run it again and see if it gives you another day. Those are good blades too. Them and the Voshkods are all I need. Key word is need :D As long as there are other blades that don't shred, I'll use them :ashamed001.

    CWR/Alum
    Florida Water/Eua de Portugal/Witch-hazel/M-Bomb:freezing:freezing:freezing
    Arko Citrus ASB
I smell pretty! :D Still playing with the settings on the progress, 4 was a little too aggressive, 1.5 was just right for a finish pass, but I think I need to oil up before hand unless I'm using something really slick and protective. Sputnik is still nice and smooth on day 2, but I have a little irritation on my chin and cheeks are nice but not perfect, hence the need for an oil pass.
Arko super lather whipped up easy peasy but just wasn't as protective as I'm used to with the soaps I've been using.
All in all, a nice relaxing shave to start off my day that I'll be spending doing the March of Dimes Preemie Walk! (my loving girlfriend was a preemie, as an aside, not the reason for the walk tho)

    Merkur Bakelite
    Voskhod Teflon
    RV Finest
    Speick Stick
    Alum

In my haste to leave the house, I didn't pack the feather portable. I really need to just make up my mind instead of sitting there trying to decide which razor to bring. I picked up the Bakelite Merkur razor yesterday ($17). It's very light, but seemed to give a decent shave with the Voskhod. Overall I am happy with my first shave with it. A minimalist 2 Pass CCS.

    Saturday's Shave:

    Hot Shower
    Arko Shave Stick/Omega 10029
    1965 Gillette Adjustable @5//Rapira(Day2)
Arko Nem moisturizer/Arko Aqua AS splash

Today was not a "Shave-Off"...It was simply a 2 1/2 pass shave of perfection...And today the Slim Adjustable effortlessly took the "Hot Knife Through Butter" Award...For some reason my whiskers were unusually heavy. I think maybe because yesterday I shaved very early in the morning and today I shaved in the late afternoon-early evening. I had every intention of shaving with my beloved Schick I2, put as I purused today's SoS thread, Oberloser's wonderful photo of a Slim that looks exactly like mine, warmed my heart and I needed a shave with the Adjustable...

So as I quoted above, earlier this week I had a "Shave-Off" between my Schick and my Slim @9...Today I wanted a milder shave where I could feel free to razor buff and J-Hook at will, like I do with my Schick. So I ended up randomly picking the #5 setting. Hot Knife Through Butter, is the way it went...A lovely shave for the record books...totally effortless, and irritation free. This was so much more than an admirable job, this was as good as it gets...As Danny would say,"Babies Bottoms would be jealous of this shave":happy102

I'd also like to thank Rapira, for being one of the finest blades to ever cross my face...and to the Arko Shave Stick for always exploding into a most luxuriously thick, and protecting lather...Today my brush handle was so slippery from the Arko, it slip out of my hand...Thats a first !!

Saturday - it's the weekend! :happy069 Time for the SEs!!

Prep: 30 minute marinade with TSD ISZ PSB, hone & strop str8, hot shower, soak brush
Coffee: Home roasted, fresh ground Rwanda, BLACK
    Hone: Duro
    Strop: VB 2" Black Latigo/linen
Soap: TSD SOTQ A4, Burmese Wood
    Brush: Omega 10098
Str8: Boker SS St. Louis, 3+ passes
Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash, Dickenson's WH, B&BW Oak
    'Stache Wax: Steve's Own

    Shave Rating: 4 Blades

Not bad. No blood is always a good thing.

I tried some KMF Unscented shaving cream on my hone as Danny had reminded me in his story. Seemed to help keep the blade flat. Still needs some work.

Shave Of The Day - April 30th, 2011

    • Hot Shower
    • Vintage Butterscotch Horse Hair Brush
    • T.O.B.S. Rose Cream
    • Lord L6 Razor
    • Gillette 7 O'clock Permasharp Blade ~ Day 8
    • Thayers Witch Hazel/Osage Rub Blend
    • Osage Rub ~ :freezing :freezing :freezing
    • Murray & Lanman Florida Water ~ Thanks to Bob!

In my last SOTD I stated that I didn't remember pushing a blade for as many shaves as I had this Permasharp, and when Dale asked if I was going to go for shave 8 with it, my reply was I wasn't sure. Since I value our members opinions so highly, and at the urging of Bob as quoted above, I went on and gave it a go for today's shave.

All in all the shave wasn't bad, a touch rough in some spots, and definitely more blade buffing was needed during the shave to get the results I was expecting with this combo. I remarked during the beginning of this razor/blade stint how audible the shave was, almost a "tinging" noise as the whiskers were cut, but as the blades sharpness degraded that noise has changed to a much more muted "shushing" noise.

My main intent on using this Lord L6 was to decide if I could recommend it for new wetshavers, not for a blade longevity test, and for that purpose this razor has passed with flying colors and will be included in the "What razor should I buy" thread.

So in the end I have decided that this cheap razor is a great value, and that I like the Permasharps so much, they will be my next bulk blade order.

A little rough, a little extra work, but I smell great and this shave is worth 4 blades in the end. :)

Pre-shave soap: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Razor: Merkur 23C
    Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: Omega 646232 "Vivaldi" Artificial Badger
Soap: Ogallala Bay Rum & Sweet Orange
A/S: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel, Speick Splash

Belated posting--very nice shave this morning. Although I generally prefer tallow soaps and "croaps" for the substantial face feel that they impart, I also get nice shaves from many veggie and "melt and pour" types of soaps. This was the case this morning with the Ogallala soap. I have to mind my p's and q's, though, because it seems to be not quite so protective as a tallow soap. Maybe it's a good thing--keeps me on my toes with my shaving technique. The shave this morning was irritation-free and very refreshing.

That "DEVELOPED WITH ATHLETES" thing on the Adidas a/s label cracks me up. I own a bottle of that and I like it a lot, but b.s. advertising nonsense taglines like that crack me up. And so carefully worded. "We didn't say 'BY ATHLETES,' we said 'WITH ATHLETES.' One of them could have played some ball at some point. You don't know."

Fall asleep late, so it was another DE shave.

    Merkur 23C/Blue Personna
    Vie-Long horsehair brush
    Ceramic bowl
Wilkinson Sword soap in a blue bowl
    Cold water rug

An interesting observation... If I put lather on my face after the shave and let it sit while I wash my brush and bowl and then wash it out with cold water - I can often skip aftershave!
