    Saturday! Rolls time!
    • Prep: hot water splash, hot washing cloth
    • Music: Maroon 5, It Won't Be Soon Before Long
    • Brush: Wilkinson Sword, badger / boar
    • Soap: DVH
    • Razor: Rolls Razor :love029: :love029: :love029: :love029:
    • Shave: 3-pass + touch-up
    • Post: hot water splash, cold water splash, TSD Witch Hazel Cedarwood
A nice shave again with the Rolls Razor. Close to BBS. :happy108: Just along the jaw line not quite. I am appreciating the Rolls more and more. As I get to know it more the shaves are becoming more comfortable. I am already looking out to tomorrow's Rolls shave! :)

    SoS 2012-04-14-a.jpg

Felt like bowl lathering today, so I could feel the luxury of a warm lather. I usually use an old Tabac mug for bowl lathering. That bowl is way too small for the DVH brush, so I used my Wilkinson Sword brush, which I had glued together again (the knot had come out). The 2nd pic shows the difference in knot size between the DVH and the Wilkinson Sword. I prefer the larger DVH brush. After some weeks of DVH face lathering the Wilkinson feels rather small...

I decided on a whim to have some Witch Hazel as well for post-shave. Glad I did! Smells good!

SoS 2012-04-14-b.jpg (the ducks said they wanted to appear in the pic as well, so...)

While lathering I was thinking about the need to have a larger mug (preferably a scuttle! ;) So thinklikeh20, if your brother needs someone to test some scuttles.... :D ). And about the way a scuttle has ridges on the inside to promote lather build-up. Then I thought about a pudding mould. It is large enough for a larger brush and it has ridges! I don't think SWMBO would be happy if I used our antique one, though... :scared003:
SoS 2012-04-14-c.jpg Does anyone else have experience with something like this?

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Saturday's Shower and Shave;
Hot shower with Amber Bath Works, bar soap.
Facial prep Proraso, glycerin soap. Prep the face nicely.
The Vulfix boar was next in the line-up for lathering. I really enjoy this brush, it is a lathering monster. It is a very dense brush, unlike my other brushes I do not think this one is going to bloom out.
An English made brush lathered an English made soap cream Taylor of Bond St. Avocado.
Decided to use my Super Adjustable with a blue Persona dialed into #7.
After three passes a cold water splash. An application of RazoRock Alum, cold water rinse. Pat dry the face splash on witch hazel and the finishing touch Kanaga water.

The panel of :wave:were thrilled gave the DFS, a stunning 10.

    Brush: Semogue 830 banded boar
    Razor: Merkur 41C open-comb "1904"
Blade: Store branded Personna ASR stainless, 3 or 4 | trimmed Feather blade as a shim
    Soap: La Toja shave stick
Toner: Thayer's Rose Petal witch hazel

Pretty darn good. Though I think I should retire this blade soon, just a little less than ideal, but still a good shave! Happy Shaving! :shaver

    Saturday:
    6/8 Vostok razor
    Vie-Long horsehair brush
Williams mug soap/Red Line SC uberlather
    Cold water splash
    Alum
    Cold water splash
    Nivea AS balm
Tried to use the newspaper instead of a pasted strop to see how our grandpas could use a single strop to touchup the razor. I can say that newspaper works nice. Slow-cutter ;-) but results the very keen edge. Nice!

    Semogue 1305
    MWF
    Cold Water Rinse
    Clubman Pinaud Classic.

I haven't tried the newspaper trick however I've been considering just mounting a hook on my bathroom wall so I can get a hanging strop with a linen backing. The paddle strops are nice, but we'll see I guess. My new coticule should be here Monday too, perhaps excessively expensive for finishing/maintenance but I got it for the same price as a barber hone.

A while back I came across the eShave travel kit, but unlike the kit I linked to, the one I got has a single container of oil, cream and ASB in a green drawstring bag. They were being cleared out for only $1 each and I bought the only 2 left. My first experience with this collection was at a YMCA camp, using cold well water and my Gillette Guard razor. In spite of that and being in a hurry, it gave me a great shave.

This time I took my time, used warm, softened water, and my 38M and the result was the same. eShave products may be just as moisturizing for my face as the Mystic Water products. My face felt incredibly moisturized all day. I'd have to try head to head to see how it compares to MW. I'm looking forward to using this kit up. The scent is very nice too. I didn't think I would like a lime scent, but I do.

Give it a try, Justin! I just wrapped a newspaper over the loop strop and strop on the paper. The process is slow but gives you a wide space for mistake - a single wrong lap will not ruin the edge. Besides, the resulting edge is very smooth. The newspaper works much like linen (IMHO) or the leather with the fine paste. I like that trick. As for the hones, I use 3000/8000/12000 Naniwas and happy with the results. Newspaper seems to be a nice addition to close the gap between stropping and touching up on 12000. Don't know why, but I have to touch up my straights every 3-4 shaves...

This shave was a bit rougher than yesterday's shave. I guess this blade needs a bit more sharpening. (since I've got three blades, I'm in the luxury position where I am able to rotate the blades with each shave.) Other than that, a really nice shave again! :)

    Have a great sunday!
