My first shave with the Rapira Super Stainless was nice and smooth,I can't tell the difference between the Swedish Steel and the Super Stainless. They both do the job very well,a very nice 2 pass face,1 pass headshave,BBS all around.

I really like how that cream performs, but I wish it had a better scent.

    A Great Holiday Shave

Well... I am now on holiday in Canada. It was my birthday yesterday and I had a great day! :) I had a cake with a "photograph" of a Boeing B777-300ER on it. Very cool... I had never seen that before...

    cake.jpg

To top the day off my birthday present (presents!) to myself arrived in the post as well. The package was from The Italian Barber and included a new iKon OSS all-stainless razor, a Feather SS black disposable straight razor, some 444 AS balm, a Tabac soap, some Vitos Colonia Classica, and a sample of Mavis licorice mint toothpaste.

    holiday-shave-01.jpg
    • Pre-Shave - Floid Blue pre-shave gel.
    • Cream - Lord Menthol. I really love this cream. It lathers very well, has a very pleasant lemony scent and a very nice level of menthol.
    • Brush -Frank Shave Berwick (21mm), fan shape. This is my most favorite finest badger hair brush.
    • Razor - My new iKon OSS!
    • Blade - A new Feather.
    • AS Balm - The 444 AS gel from Portugal.
    • AS - Alcolado Glacial.
I was a bit worried about the iKon OSS because it looked so similar to my Feather All-Stainless. I was very disappointed with the Feather. It was a very expensive razor and I could not get any sort of decent shave out of it. :( Three passes and I still had stubble on my face! I tried to get closer by adding pressure but just ended up nicking myself. What a bummer, I really love the Feather razor but it just doesn't work for me. I might write the Feather company a letter and suggest they produce a more aggressive head. I think that would be very cool. Otherwise, my Feather will go on the chopping block.

As you can imagine, I was a bit concerned that a second, expensive razor would also prove to be a dud. Happily, with the OSS, I can get a BBS shave but I noticed that I did have to pay close attention to the blade angle which, for me, ended up with the handle being about 45 degrees off my face. It really is a very nice razor. I did the first pass with the OC side and found that it was was just mildly aggressive. But it did do the job. I also like the way an OC leaves behind small strip-like traces of cream. It makes it very easy to redo a small area if required.

    The Shave

The Floid Blue pre-shave was nice and it is easy to travel with. Got a nice menthol kick going with the Lord cream. Great 3-pass shave with the new OSS. Still working on the blade angle but I found this to be a very close and comfortable razor. It was particularly easy to use in the chin area. Followed up the shave with a nice cold water rinse and some 444 AS balm. Great stuff!! (Special thanks to crackstar for the introduction!) I think the 444 was a bit more cooling than my Vifrex but I will leave that debate to the menthol heads! LOL. :) After cleaning up, I finished with the Alcolado Glacial. Awesome! I found that the combination of the balm and after shave had a synergistic effect. The Alcolado seemed to reactivate the 444 for a very nice, strong cooling effect.

Overall a very pleasant way to start my first day as a 49-year-old!

    Cheers, Lyndon

I actually lo the scent, just shows how YMMV. I think that the allantoin really helps with the skin moisturizing. I will be ordering the menthol version soon since it is so highly regarded by our menthol guru Jeff.

I may have to do that. I see that shaveabuck has it for $6 with free shipping.

It may very well grow on me before that tube is gone. That's happened with a couple soaps and creams I have.
