thanks Sodapop, That Packard is a great shaver. The first time I stropped it I could tell it was going to be great. It has a very distinct singing sound when being stropped that tells you "let's get to some whiskers"!
Yeah Man, I bet it is a treasure, and your Ming-Shi aswell.AND...Yeah Man, he is a very fine gentleman...).. I find the M-S and my SS to shave very similarly also... The only differances I see between mine, is 1. My SS is probably a touch more aggressive in the way it cuts hair, example: the shave I can get in 3 passes with my M-S, I can usually get in 2 with the SS... but they both feel similarly mild on my skin..And 2, would be the handles...They both really excell at manueverabillity, but the M-S has a longer, very well balenced, handle so you can get all 4 digits on it, and my SS has the old style very skinny and short, but also very well balanced handle which gives you the classic "pinched at the knob" type grip. So as to which grip you like the most is diffinantly YMMV, and can change from day to day...But they both really are great shavers and I believe share many of the same shave characteristics... What do you think Jeff/Crackstar ?....Am I in the ball-park?

SOTD Friday August 6, 2010 Razor: 15/16 Geo Wostenholm & Sons, Celebrated I-XL Razor Rockingham Works, Sheffield, England, Hollow Point Ca 1836 Pre-Shave Cream: Proraso Soap/Mug: Mitchell's Wool Fat Scuttle: RAB Ceramic Brush: Medium Badger ASB: Nivea Replenishing Aftershave/Cologne: British Sterling Cologne for Men Great shave this morning with the Wostie Chopper and MWF. This was a special shave in many ways. I re-discovered a sometimes forgotten fact; razors are sharp! I was all lathered up and picked up the razor noticing I hadn't wiped the oil off the blade. (you can see this coming can't you?) I get some tissue and wipe the blade and ...slip..nasty feeling..I notice that the top of my index finger is pouring blood all over the counter. After cold water rinses and two bandages I finally get the bleeding stopped enough to not leak through the bandages so I can complete my shave. Two things we should never forget: (1) Drink all of your cup of coffee before shaving. (2) When you are in a small room with a sharp instrument, be aware of where it's at at all times! I hope you all had a little less exciting shave that mine this morning Gentlemen, enjoy!
Friday Prep: Hot shower, hand strop blade, soak brush Hot coffee: Home roasted Tanzania, black Soap: Em's Bay Rum + 3 drops M Bomb Brush: Vulfix 404, The Grosvenor badger/boar Razor: Ball End Tech Blade: Shark, day 5, 3+ passes Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash, Osage Rub, Ogallala Bay Rum AS/Skin Toner 'Stache Wax: Firehouse Wacky Tacky Shave Rating: 4 Blades Decent shave. Don't know why I keep using the Ball End Tech. A bit too mild and I really don't like to have to work for a 5-Blade shave when I know I can get it so easily from other combos. Guess I keep trying 'cause maybe some day I'll find just the right blade for this thing. *shrug*
Friday, August 06, 2010 Razor: EJ Chatsworth Blade: Super Iridium Brush: Simpson Colonel X2L Soap: D.R. Harris Arlington A/S: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel, Mr. Taylor Splash Another excellent shave--everything just came together for a superb result. The Harris soaps lather wonderfully and I love the Arlington scent. The Mr. Taylor splash provided a fine finish--I'm still enjoying the fragrance. I feel that I should be attending a polo match or going to the yacht club or something like that, but I'm going out to cut the grass.
Rockin' the Rose baby! Edwin Jagger DE86 Gillette 7 O'clock Permasharp (Day 3) New Forest 2201 Trumper Rose Soap Alum Block TSD Victorian Rose AS Mama Bear Chypre Rose Cologne Some days you just miss a few strays. So not BBS but not bad. 4.5 Man, I smell great!
I've flat found my razor...now I've got to nail down all the other stuff....) You can send that razor though if you like, I need something for stirring paint when I refinish the bed room...)
Friday's shave Williams DE Derby (3) The Dridecker boosted TSD Monkey Farts SS Thayer's WH Barbasol Pacific Rush AS Not a bad shave today at all. This is perhaps the coolest little razor I have used. I'm probably only going to get one more day out of the blade, but today was a nice 4 blade shave. Tomorrow probably won't be unless I invoke the rule of 3. I'll have to see tomorrow a.m.
From Vegas AOS unscented pre-shave Gillette Red Tip Merkur Blade Mama Bear's Rosemary Mint Shave Stick Travel Badger Brush with Lucite Handle RazoRock AOS unscented post-shave Balm -5 blade lucky shave -Merkur blades were waiting for me at Bell desk with a very nice supply of samples-AOS pre-shave, shave cream, post shave balm, and a bunch of other stuff I haven't even had time to sort thru yet! Haven't had time to hit AOS store yet either-fantastic conference. SWMBO along and texted me from antique shop with pics of 2 straights in great shape $40 for both-she'll probably talk down to $30 knowing her. One is a Solingen-told her to grab em.
Friday shave... Gillette British Tech Feather blade (1) CO Bigelow Shave cream VDH boar brush OBR limes and peppercorns AS Shower to Shower body powder (for my neck) First go with the Gillette Tech. I liked it a great deal. Very mild shave but still 4.5 blades. Liked the CO Bigelow too, but I'll probably try to get a tube/tub of the Prorasso cream eventually. Have a great day!

Saturday August 7 Slim (9) Bic (4) Home Made PreShave Oil (2 Castor/1 Olive) Tweezerman Tabac Proraso, Hybrid Bay Rum Mix 3 pass + touch-up, 4.7 shave. Not bad for day 4 on a Bic. I felt it pulling some today, so 4 will be it for this blade. Lately I have been adding 2 drops of glycerin to my dime sized PreShave Oil mix (in my hand), and I do think this has improved my shaves, especially in preventing neck irritation with the Bic blade. One drop was unnoticeable while 3 drops seemed too much. I also noticed that adding 2 drops of Grapeseed Oil helps too. Perhaps it is the viscosity thinning, as both are much thinner than my mix. The Castor mix seems to promote better whisker reduction while the grapeseed/or glycerin protects my neck better from nicks with less forgiving blades.
