August Focus - Slim and Feather AC
    August 27
    Razor - 1964 Gillette Slim (J1)
    Blade - [IMG]Brush - BoS (Omega 10066)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post - Cold water, Alum, The Veg

Ok boys and girls, today is the day we try for the "grail shave". DFS in one pass. Can it be done with this setup? Let's review. The 1964 Slim on 9 and the Super-Max Super Platinum blade. One of the best in the box. (Why don't I order this one in bulk?) On 5 yesterday the razor and blade gave me a fantastic two pass DFS. If I'm going to get the grail it has to be on this setup I think. And, to enhance the chance I'm going to use БоСФат - the best brush/soap combo I have. Why take chances, right?

Lathered up and I have to say I think the brush was ready to go this morning. It loaded very fast off of the damp puck of Fat and produced an outstanding lather. Now, since it's only a one pass (if it works) I don't care about the leftover. I'm not going to relather unless this fails.

I changed my technique just a bit, using short strokes on the face and going G-slide on the neck with a little bit of XTG follow up. Finished the pass, rinsed, checked, and................

Yes, there it is. A DFS. I'm not going to say a fantastic DFS but definitely better than CCS. Amazing result from this combo and while I celebrated my ability to accomplish this I also felt a bit of disappointment because the shave was over. One pass just goes too fast, even when concentrating on technique changes and going for that kind of finish. Kind of killed the fun. Oh well, I checked the Alum and found it quiet and threw on the Veg to complete a perfect morning.

As the day went on I checked occasionally and I can say that by the end of the day my face wasn't as smooth as normal. Clearly it wasn't a great DFS but like I said, enough to call it one. No rough patches or areas that were unpresentable. Now I have to figure out what blade to use tomorrow. See if I can find one that may be able to do this again. Here comes Friday everybody....we survived another week!

Fitjarsoap Telemark smells wonderful, absolutely wonderful. It is a complex scent that reminds me of a proper wooden fire and the insides of an old wooden boat. It is fire, smoke and tar, but not the peated smoky note you get from good quality Islay whiskey. It is a masculine scent.
It is one of my favourite soaps. It lathers really well, smells divine and usually give me a close shave.

Today was the exception. I loaded my EJ de89 with a Viking Sword blade. The blade felt smooth enough, but not so sharp, and it was far from a close shave. Granted, I had a two day stubble, but after two passes I still had a days’ worth of stubble left.
I am not used to that, but I can only speculate in that the pairing of blade and razor was not ideal. If this is the usual performance, I am considering revoking the Viking name from the blade.
As a Norseman and descendant from the true Vikings, I believe this is in my right :)

    Razor: Edwin Jagger de89
    Blade: Viking Sword
    Brush: Frank Shaving Chubby Badger
    Soap: Fitjarsoap Telemark

    Ferox Fatboy Friday
Fine shave today as I watch the dreaded donut hole in my tub of Ferox grow. I still have a month of shaves left in it I think. I'm sad to see it discontinued, but I love it's replacement, too. Such is the way with B&M soap.
I went back to my usual 9-7-7 with the Fatboy, and the first shave on the Personna seems to have smoothed the blade out a bit. I think I will go back to 8-8-6 tomorrow because that felt a little better. I finished up with CRSW Jardin d'Orange and Versace Pour Homme.

My eyes were tearing for a while during this shave - not only that, my nose was running a little also because of the intense menthol power of the Glacial Wintergreen soap, balm, and witch hazel. Not only am I BBS, my face feels so soothed and relaxed as well as protected from irritation and dryness. These products are da BOMB!!!!!

    30 day Focus - Day 27
MDC Lavender Face Lathered w/ a touch of TOBS Almond
Voskhod Blade (Day 1 on blade, Day 3 on Voskhod)
    Slim Adjustable set to 8
    3 passes

I saw a post on the board earlier today where someone said that the Voskhod gives them a better shave on the second and third day. Since I only use a blade for three days, I can't comment on the third day, but the second day does always seem to be a tiny bit smother than the first. Another great shave today.

Prep: Rusty Blade blend pre-shave oil
Razor/Blade: Gillette Canadian Heavy Tech / Astra SP
    Brush/Soap: Semogue/ DR Harris Naturals
    Aftershave: Witch Hazel/coconut oil
    Mustache Wax: Badger

First time with DR Harris Naturals Shaving Soap this morning. This is one of three new triple milled soaps I recently purchased. This one is scent free. Easy to lather and great lubrication. It left my skin feeling a bit dry after my shave, but this was easily managed with some coconut oil post-shave. Overall it was delightful. Feels great for a TGIF shave.:chores016:

    Frey's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Invigorating Face Wash, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
Lather: Ginger's Garden Coffee Jasmine soap
    Razor: RazoRock Bamboozled RAKE OC
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (4)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (10, 11, 12)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's witch hazel, Pinaud Clubman AS splash
Cologne: Le 3e Homme de Caron

I had a couple of days' growth to mow down, so I took a little more time in the preshave. Every time I reach for the Ginger's Garden soaps, I am amazed they don't get more love around here; they positively explode with lather, and provide excellent cushion and glide. On Day 4, and in double-digit passes, the Bic was showing enough signs of age to be swapped out after today, but it produced nary a weeper nor nick. Three passes got me near-BBS results.

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Cobra Classic, Dubl Duck Goldedge straight razor
    Blade: Feather Professional (9)
    Brush: Vie Long Horse Hair
    Soap: RazoRock - Don Donato
After: Home made ASB, Nivea after shave balm
    Cologne: Midnight In Paris

Happy Friday! The Vie Long brush whipped the Don Donato soap into a very nice lather. The Cobra and the Duck did a fine job getting rid of the stubble. The Nivea ASB and the Midnight In Paris were a nice finish to this Darn Fine Shave.

    Have a blessed day!
