Yes I know all about this, but thanks for the advice nonetheless. It is very much appreciated.
And for what its worth, the razor shaves just fine. It is just my lack of experience with it that is the "problem".
I have yet to figure out which blade and what setting works best for me. I've had it for over a year and only used it half a dozen times.
    Shame on me, actually :)

Not the smoothest of shaves this morning. My lather was a little off, not sure if the was the cause of the irritation or not. Two passes, DFS, a small nick some where, still better then not shaving.

Broke out the trimmers today and the goatee is back to neat and tidy.

Bartmann razors don't come up for sale very often and aren't posted very often. I lucked into a NOS Bartmann 86 for my first one. It was hiding in an antique/junk store. Then someone who's been at this a lot longer than me PM'd me and offered a few more to me. The 504 with the worked spine called out to me.

Gary, I stopped using my Muhle synthetics after obtaining Steve's H.I.S. The lower loft and tighter knot and stiffer backbone make for better lathering. I love my large H.I.S. as well, for it's softness and for how much lather it holds. And you've probably noticed I seldom use my badgers anymore.

    Razor: GEM MMCP
    Blade: GEM
    Brush: Muhle Black Fiber Synthetic
    lather: Provence Sante

I really dislike French soaps... But I got this soap for free so I said what the heck. I like the smell- it is very light and reminds me of Dove or dandelions. First impression is that it is easier to lather than Pre de Provence. Other than that it seems just as bad as PdP. A thick dense lather causes the blade to skip. The lather has lots of cushion but no slickness. A thinner lather has slickness but it loses all its cushion. With something like Proraso (red) I can get by despite it having little cushion because of its supreme beard softening but Provence Sante doesn't even have that. I'm going to give it a few more tries with my GEMs but I might have to relegate it to cartridge shaves or as just a bath soap. Moisturization is really good though. It rivals or perhaps even exceeds MWF. I ended up with some weepers.

Yesterday's shave. It was so much better than the shave I had a couple days ago. Proraso Blue is my go to whenever my skin is beat up. All I did was one pass because I didn't want to make things worse. And as always, the Fine American Blend toned my skin really well and made me a happy guy.

    Saturn's Day:

    Prep: Hot shower
    Brush: Beeline Boar
    Soap: Stirling Bay Rum
    Razor: FaTip Piccolo
    Blade: Bolzano Superinox (2)
    Passes: WTG (3)
Post: Cold water splash, Dickinson's WH, Aveeno Active Naturals AS lotion

I honestly considered skipping today's shave entirely. However, an hour's worth of yardwork had me needing a shower, and I decided at the last minute that I'd take the opportunity to have another go at the Stirling Bay Rum, to see if I could get a better lather this time. I'd already watched Rod's 'how-to' video on lathering Stirling Soaps a couple more times since Thursday, so I was a bit more confident. Sure enough, with a wetter puck and a bit more pressure on the brush, I was able to work up creamy, stable lather that protected better than the last time. Granted, I only went for a one-pass, SAS today, but I was also using a more aggressive razor this time. Combine the Stirling with the Aveeno aftershave lotion, minus any alum, and 'hydrated' doesn't even begin to cover how moisturized my face feels.
