I have used sticks only a few times but it haven't stuck in my routine. I can only admit I have missed something! The "massage" the brush provides when face-lathering is great! Have to do this more often! And the citrusy scent of the QED Bathtub Gin is very pleasant! The long handled Merkur 23C I also recieved from my Secret Santa is just awesome! A tad on the light side, but the grip and handling with the long handle is perfect!

Man........these open combs are aggressive! I can certainly see how effective these types of razors can be when needed for a very coarse beard. That's not me though, and it's a great example of the YMMV thingy. This Gillette isn't one of those that needs a shim, is it? Hehe, I kinda doubt they are, but this thing's dangerous! Let me also mention this was my first shave with this razor.

I got an extremely close shave, as the open comb types provide me with. Part of the problem is the extra care and attention spent to avoid any divots, weepers, or irritation like razor burn. If my technique wasn't excellent, this one coulda hurt me badly........heh. Whew......I'm so much more aware of the blade itself, as the razor waltzes over my face. Hehe, this was a very SLOW waltz.

This 'Monk' EdP is pretty interesting. I've tried it twice now, and can't decide how much I like it. It will often take a number of wearings to figure those things out.

Oh, did I mention how amazingly smooth my face is? Sigh, I wish these open comb razors suited my face.

 

Try a milder blade with it. May help.... Or a sharper blade

Haven't typed much at you recently, so let's fix that right now. First I'll be serious, and then.....not.

Seems like my three blades of choice (Iridium, 7 0'clock sharpedge, and feather) would be about sharp enough. I can't see going to a milder blade that might be more comfortable, but wouldn't cut as well. Or...........maybe I would find the milder blade to be more effective in a more aggressive razor? Hehehehehehehehehe, now comes the funny part, and please. no offense is meant.

Will, you must be crazy to think I'm gonna fall for trying to find the right blade with the right razor. You know how many damn blades I went through to find those perfect ones I now use? You have any idea of how many goofy razors I tried before finding the magical one? And...........finally putting em both together took a loooooong time.

Heh, save that helpful info for the new guys who haven't traveled that road quite as thoroughly. Are you trying to send me down another rabbit hole without a bottom? Whew..........no thank you.

I know the blade quest can almost be a never ending battle, however I find different blades work better with different razors. Super Speeds with a feather will be way different then a Super Speed with a Derby or Feather with a Slim or a Sharps with a Merkur HD....
