HTGAM gave me a mountain of slick lather on the way to a BBS two pass shave. It's great to be back home in The Desert!

    Slow Joe Relishing his obsession

Today was the first shave since no variation November. And i used a new razor i've never used before. It's a hundred year old razor that uses gem single edge blades. It was really hard to find the right angle to use, and to be honest i could really use the strop handle that goes with this razor, as they handle is quite short.
But i did get an irritation free nearly bbs shave,i'm quite impressed with this razor and it's a lovely razor to look at. It was strange using a different set up then i have been using for the past 30 days.
I will try and put more pictures of this razer and post a review of it in another thread.[IMG]

    Tyr's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Invigorating cleanser, TSD Jasmine Sambac Preshave balm
    Brush: Simpsons 56 Best Badger
    Soap: Stirling Coconut Lime (sample)
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Baili Platinum Stainless (2)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (3, 4)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Aveeno Active Naturals ASB
    Cologne: Burberry Brit by Burberry

Finally decided to open up the sample of Coconut Lime I got from ordering the Obsidian Glacial and the Bay Rum; unfortunately, this one smells nice, leaves my skin feeling soft, but doesn't lather one iota better than either of the other Stirling soaps in my rotation. My hat's off to those of you who get great lather from this soapmaker, but I can't do it with anything like consistency. The Baili was smoother today, but I still had to cut the shave short after only 2 passes.

Beautiful brush! What size is that knot? I stuffed a WD Silvertip 24/48 in mine, but had to sand out the hole 2 mm to set it in to 48mm.

    Schick G5 razor
    Personna blade
    Stirling Cool SS
    Plisson/L'Ocitanne synthetic brush
    Osage Rub/Witch Hazel/Sage mix
    Pinaud Lime Sec EDC

Another easy lather with the Plisson. I might get to really like this brush

    Thanks!

The knot is 24mm. I also had to enlarge the hole in the handle to set the knot properly. I don't remember the loft, but it is the maximum height, which works for me with this synthetic.

    Razor: Gillette Goodwill #164 1931
    Brush: Whipped Dog 30/45 Silvertip
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
    Cream: TOBS Grapefruit
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black balm, Old Spice original Shulton
    image.jpg
First shave with my last razor. Loaded a new Feather and checked the alignment. It looks strange with the studs showing through the top cap, but the Feather was aligned perfectly. I actually unscrewed the head and repeated the process and it loaded the same. From the side it looks a lot like my Gillette Old Type Open Comb Ball End, which had me worried, as the Old is rough for me so I will tread softly. I whipped up the TOBS Grapefruit, nice scent, reminds me of summer, with the big WD in my favorite mug. First pass WTG going slow and very nice glide with no pressure with this light razor. Very nice, nothing like the Old, more like my Tech, which is closed comb. Second pass XTG on my face and then ATG on my neck. TOBS was nice and slick and helped get a great shave. A little touchup on my neck, and done. Great razor! Very smooth compared to the Old. The WH felt good and then some JB. After cleanup some vintage OS. Gotta love the Spice. Another keeper. Have a good one.
