Today is the second anniversary of my first wet shaving experience. I've come a long way from an EJ DE89 and a derby blade.

Damaskeene with injector blade shimmed GEM Blue Star (I know, got em cheap). Following traditional cargo pants strop blade had phenomenal initial sharpness and smoothness, near BBS in two passes, but seemed to run out of steam mid head shave. Perhaps more of a sprinter than distance runner but really enjoyed the beard shave. Happy Holidays y'all. [IMG]

Christmas Day calls for something special. So I pulled out and used the newly assembled (but will rarely be used) Shulton vintage set.

Fragrance - Old Spice - Shulton circa 1977 (from the telescope decanter transfered into my 9.5 oz classic shulton bottle)
Aftershave - Old Spice - Shulton circa late 1980's
Deodorant - Old Spice - Shulton circa 1980's (same stuff my Dad had when I was a kid, awesome Ebay find)
Shave Soap - Old Spice - Shulton circa 1980's
Razor - Gillette Superpeed DE circa 1947-1952 re-plated
Blade - Astra Green Superior Platinum
Shave Brush - Vigshaving 26mm Synthetic
    Pre-shave oil - Lather & Wood unscented
Post-shave balm - Retseliney Hyaluronic Acid Serum

    Merry Christmas!

Simple, easy, efficient shave with the G1 injector and The Fat. Superb, bountiful lather was defeated in two passes. Nice result in the end.

I hope everyone had a terrific and blessed Christmas day!

Wonderful Xmas shave!! BBS all the way! My son selected this setup. He loved the softness of the Jayaruh #99 brush and he selected one of my birth razors. The soap is totally Xmas. The aftershave paired well with the menthol kick from the cold peppermint cream.

Merry Xmas guys and happy shaving!

Dec 25: Xmas shave. Again usual set up with my Merkur 34c, bowl, Vie Long horse hair brush, one of my favorite bay rums soaps - Barrister & Mann, Nivea to overcome the dryness here, and a new blade for testing - Treet Platinum. All in all a good shave. Treat is made in Pakistan and goes for around $12 to $13 per 100. It gave me a nice shave. Not great but not bad. Did the full three pass routine with clean up. Probably will rank it towards the top of the good blade category. I have tested 24 different brands so far. I now have 4 categories of results: poor, good, very good, and excellent. Then I rank them top to bottom within each category. 7 more brands to go. Hope everyone had a Merry Xmas.

    Razor: Gillette ball end tech

    Brush: RazoRock plissoft

Lather: Dr. Jon's Krampus/ Perfectly Natural Citrus Mint Menthol
Post: Stirling Mountain Man aftershave & Balm

Very nice Christmas shave this morning. Decided to mix Krampus with the Perfectly Natural soap to add a nice menthol blast. Shave went well even thou the blade is starting to show its age a bit. Finished off with Mountain Man for a smooth post shave. Merry Christmas everyone!

    Decadent December!!

    December 25

    Razor - Soviet Consul
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Omega Pro 48
    Post - Alum

Time for shave #3 on the Consul at setting 3 and the final night for the Swede. We have some high stakes donation action riding on my results from here on out so the pressure to perform is high. Let's hope the razor is up to it. The big Pro 48 produced lather with Arko like a machine and enough to share with the neighborhood. I kind of forgot about the size difference and overdid it a bit. Oh well. Arko is cheap.

Dialed the razor up to 3 and tightened it back down, looked at the blade and the gap and.....I think we're seeing a weakness developing. Looks to me like the corners of the blade, meaning the ends, are squeezing down just slightly more than the center. It's subtle, and perhaps even an illusion at this point, but I would swear it's bowing ever so slightly upward in the middle. If that's the case and, if every setting exacerbates the issue, this is going to get interesting before it's over. A bowed blade will drive up irritation and perhaps create the opportunity for those corners to do a bit of blood work. Time will tell.

As for the shave tonight it was still smooth and no problems at all. Again, this 3 feels more like a 5 or so on a Slim and it looks more aggressive as well so 9 is going to be a trip. Two passes to a very solid DFS and the alum was basically quiet. The razor passes 3 with flying colors. Tomorrow we change to the Rapira Platinum Lux and dial it up to 4. We'll see if it continues to get the job done without a problem.

I trust your day was relaxing and enjoyable for the holiday. We attacked a Chinese buffet earlier and had our traditional meal and sat around and did nothing. Perfect holiday. Now, the only problem, I am working every day this week as this is normally our busiest week in the year. I will be totally lost on what day of the week it is.

I liked the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon from @wristwatchb today. And for those of you not familiar with the plot of the strip or its origins, I thought I'd give him a treat by sharing the very first Calvin and Hobbes as an extra holiday gift. The tuna remark from the earlier strip may make more sense for the less informed as well.

    Have a great Monday!
