Nice pic. I like how the wood grain comes through the Semogue handle and if I remember right the 820 is red around the bristle base and with the dark wood background it comes out black which I really like.

First time using Rapira Platinum Lux or a Rapira of any kind and jury still out. Got a BBS shave but couple of times blade skipped on both sides of my face while going with the grain and had to go back and repeat the pass. Usually with R41 all it takes is two passes for me to obtain BBS shave but with the skipping made it a 3 pass shave on the left side and four pass on the right this morning. Jabonman Mountain has turned out to be one of my top five soaps and look forward to the day it comes up in my rotation.

Not sure if you are talking about my photo Guy but, the Semogue 820 comes in both Red or Black with the clear bottom base. I have the Black 820 so the color is showing correctly. The clear base does let the surface (in this case wood) come through and is variable depending on the background color. The 820 is probably my favorite Boar brush. A close second is the Omega 31064 Boar which has a similar color/clear acrylic composition but with a taller loft and is a bit more floppy. :)

Didn't know it the brush came in black. When I went back to wet shaving two years ago the Semogue 820 was a brush recommended to me by friend in California but when I went shopping all I came across was the red version. Didn't like the red look so ended up buying a Parker best badger that was on sale for $28 which at the time was in the same price range as the 820 so went with the Parker which turned out to very good brush.

It was a moderate shave but actually I didn't like the lathering performance of Arko's shaving cream. It's shaving soap is much better in every way or maybe I'm not a cream guy. And I also didn't like the scent of cream.

Yep, the Semogue 820 Black version is hard to find. Most suppliers only have the Red; the supplier I got the Black version from was Vintage Scent. com.
Try this link: http://vintagescent.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5&sort=20a&page=3 it shows the Black version. I also got a Parker Best Badger and they are great badger brushes for the price. ;)

My father's family came to the USA from Germany before WWI, so it's been a while. I would have to go back through the records at this point to know from what town my great grandparents emigrated.

Gillette Super Adjustable (short handle), first quarter of 1969. Loaded with a fresh Gillette Super Platinum.
Stirling Black Cumin and Orange loaded with one of my favorite face lathering machine badger brushes.
Cold water splash and Clinique to finish it off.

~ A rare 3 pass shave for me. WTG on 5, ATG on 7 and the final pass ATG on 9.

I really had to warm up this tallow based soap with plenty of warm water since it had been a while since last use. This is one of the reasons that I try to keep my tallow soaps for cold weather use. Not only that but keep it to only a few so they are hydrated well.

    Great shave!

Prep: warm face wash with She Moisture scrub, Proraso PSC
    Soap: TSD Signature lanolin
    Brush: HIS Synthetic
    Razor: Maggard MR10
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock sharp edge yellow (2)
    AS: TSD Signature AS Milk

Smooth, easy great shave today. Using my Merkur 33c yesterday made me appreciate my MR10 more... I prefer a heavy razor - I think I tried to compensate for the lighter weight yesterday by adding pressure. Today I let the heft of the razor do the work and my face feels the better for it.

The soap performed admirably, quickly producing loads of slick fragrant lather. This one works better than the Subzero, maybe due to the lanolin?

    Have a great Wednesday!

TOBS Lavender SC created a smooth creamy lather with the Frank Shaving badger brush. Two passes and touch-ups on the neck left me clean and smooth with a near BBS shave. That cream/brush combination is hard to beat. I finished off this great shave with Thayers Cucumber WH and then Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS. In my mind I kept hearing the jingle, "There's something about an Aqua Velva man!"

    Wednesday:

Prep: Hot Shower, Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub, Crown Shaving Co. Preshave lotion
    Brush: VDH Boar
    Cream: Speick (German made)
Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 Open Comb (German made)
Blade: Bolzano Superinox (German made), day 3
    Passes: WTG. XTG, ATG (5, 6, 7)
Post: Cold water splash, Dickinson's WH, Speick AS splash
Cologne: Jasmin e Cigarette by ELdO

Normally, the 3rd day with the Bolzano is a sharp drop-off in sharpness and comfort for me. Today, though, I had a Simpson brush. Today, though, I had Speick cream. So, today I had a 3-pass, superbly comfortable BBS shave. Color me impressed.

Another terrific face-freezing shave thanks to my trusty Super Speed/Shark combination as well as Irena's lovely Ice Mint soap which has such a nice minty scent which fills the bathroom while you're lathering up. The lather itself is so rich and easy to work with, and the menthol effect is awesome - it's stronger than Proraso Green. The Anherb gel smells different than the conditioner and it's just as cooling and soothing, and the Floid Classic aftershave is absolutely great. ;) :D

    Prep: Warm shower, Cornhuskers Lotion

Terrific shave today! Most blades don't last more than 3 shaves for me, but the Voskhod gave me an excellent, mostly BBS shave again today on shave number 4. These blades work extremely well for me in the EJ DE89L with absolutely zero irritation. I will be ordering at least 100 today.

    Have a great day!
