Man the weather has been like Spring here in Istanbul...I felt great today, and Bruce's post warmed my heart...Congratulations Bruce, you deserve it, I hope that razor gives you many great shaves and I'm sure it will...;)

I pulled out the Black Tip Beauty today which a fine gentleman here gave me, and got another, "Best Shave of My Life" type shave with it...Far closer than any Barber-Shop shave I've gotten...And I can identify even more with Bruce's scentiments today...:))
This is a great hobby we share when a good shave can make us feel so right !! And the joy we get, when it all comes together, the razor is a perfect fit, the magic happens and makes us feel amazing.

Today's Shave Rating, if I may quote a generous gentleman:5 Blade, Off The Hook, Bang A Gong, Inter-Galactic BBS!

One of the greatest things about this hobby (more like a life choice) is that we can enjoy this hobby everyday and turn an otherwise boring routine chore into a wonderful experience. This is amplified by the fact that we can share these great shave moments and feelings with our friends around the world! I enjoy sharing these great moments with my shave Brothers. Lloyd enjoy my friend!

    Razor: Merkur Futur
    Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
    Brush: Simpson Colonel X2L
Cream: Portman Square "Notting Hill" cream soap
A/S: Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel, Mr. Taylor Splash

An absolutely excellent shave this morning--BBS and very refreshing and comfortable. This was the 5th shave on the blade and, even though there was no tugging, I will retire it. Five shaves is about my safe limit for an Astra; I really dislike having to change a blade in mid-shave.

Maiden voyage for this soap. All I can say is BRAVO, well played good Queen. I must get the cologne for this soap. If it were sold in gallon jugs I'd buy them (four or five at a time) this is quite possibly the nicest smelling soap I've ever encountered. Above and beyond the smell, it performed with all the effectiveness and ease that TSD soaps are known for. The more I use this razor, the more I like it. It seems the substantial heft makes it a bit more aggressive. Even this meager 2 pass shave left both dome and face BBS

Hot shower with Bath and body twilight woods for men
    Razor: merkur 34C
    Blade: Astra superoir platnum
    brush: AOS pure badger
    Cream: Old spice musk
    AS: TSD Cedarwood

BBS smooth with two pass with some touch up buffing in those hard to get areas. SWMBO is still not sure about the Cedarwood but it mellows nicely after about ten minutes or so. Im not crazy about the musk scent of the OS but it blended well with cedarwood and actually created something nice and earthy.

    Razor: Merkur 23C
    Blade: Treet Dura Sharp
    Brush: Grosvenor LE
    Soap: Tabac
A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Ogallala Bay Rum, Limes & Peppercorns Toner

Is it possible to get a BBS+ shave? If so, I did it this morning! It was the first shave for this blade and the first "slice" seemed just a tad rough. However, it quickly smoothed out and started behaving like an Astra Superior. The shave left my face feeling very smooth and comfortable--no nicks, burn, or other negatives.

The 23C was my first new razor when I returned to DE shaving after being sidetracked into cartridges for a long time. I didn't like the razor very well, wasn't getting very nice shaves, and thought I had made a bad choice of razor. So I began to use vintage Gillettes and started getting much better shaves. On a whim, I decided to try the 23C again and was surprised when the shaves were excellent. It was all in the technique, it seems. I thought I had it nailed because I shaved with a DE for a long time before getting into the cartridges. However, I had to unlearn some bad cartridge habits before things started to fall into place. The Gillettes were pretty forgiving razors and let me hone my technique. I learned my lesson! I still enjoy shaving with a vintage Gillette occasionally, but I love my modern razors, too.
