Thanks Paul! Huge fan of Heather's ZM shave soap recipe, and PAA's Gondolier is near 'Italian Barbershop' perfection to my nose.

I tried a ZM that was PIFed to me and liked it a lot. Too expensive though (for me). Course I'm the same guy who plunked down $60 for 2 Bill Neumann aftershaves, just to qualify for the free shipping.

As for PAA, I need a backup soap to my #1 choice(or I should say, NEXT choice),in case it gets "removed" to make room for another one. Gondolier is on my list as to what would be next.

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 10, 2021

I do love rattler grinds, and this Frederick Reynolds 5/8 is dear to my heart, despite the wavy blade and the consequent honing challenge. Rattler grinds were ground horizontally as opposed to vertically like traditional wedge and hollow grinds. According to Tweedale’s Directory of Sheffield Cutlers, Frederick Reynolds began his career in the early 1840s.in Sims Croft moving to School Croft by 1849.

In about 1860, he moved to Gell Street and, according to the Census, employed fifteen men. He continued to trade into the 1870s, when the address was Monmouth Lane. Frederick Reynolds died on 22 October 1877, aged 63. His son, Richard Reynolds continued to manufacture razors in Monmouth Lane and Gell Street into the 20th century.

The company experienced financial difficulties in 1936. During WWII, the firm was restyled Frederick Reynolds (Cutlers Sheffield) Ltd. The company ceased trading in the late 1940s, after the death of the founder's grandson Harry Reynolds who died in 1946, aged 56.

This is the razor that that taught me honing feel. It was the jewel of my old barber’s collection. I purchased it from his son along with a few other razors. Old Harry was never able to get a decent even bevel on it. My son, Ben, showed me how I could use four fingers lightly on the flat of the blade with a traditional X stroke coupled with Lynn Abrams’s circle method to achieve an even bevel.

Although the razor doesn’t hold an edge as well as some of my other Sheffield steel, it always delivers a great shave after touch up. This morning’s mug shave was all I could ask. Two and a half passes put the baby to bed despite a very mild weeper during the first pass that seemed to disappear after the second. That’s one of the great benefits of consistent use of lanolin based soaps.

I have three Shake Sharp safety razors. I used to have two more but PIF’d them to friends who both seem to be enjoying the great shaves they deliver. This morning I loaded two stacked Kai blades into one of the two metal-handled unique SEs I own. The Shake Sharp is the only SE I’m aware of that uses whole unmodified DE blades. This particular nickel-handled Model 2 cleared my noggin of stubble in two quick ATG passes leaving me in velveteen bliss from noggin to shoulders.

RAZOR: Frederick Reynolds Rattler 5/8 (Mug), GE Jones Shake Sharp (Dome)
    BLADE: 2 Stacked Kai DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: JR Rosewood Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Osage Rub AS Splash.

    Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1129

Well the razor from Hungary arrived and I had to have it since it was manufactured by the Company name of my favorite blades (Wizamet) This baby has some blade feel but a smooth shaver. I knew after the first 2 strokes that this was going to be a good shave. Don't get me wrong, she will bite if not careful but maintain the angle and correct light pressure and a glass smooth shave is the reward. I didn't know when I got it that it's aluminum but so happy to have it in the den now. The Stirling Oro Valley is inspired by Tom Ford Ombre Leather. At nearly $100 an ounce for the EDP I think I will go with an alternative cologne but enjoy this soap for sure. Here are the scent description from the Stirling site:

    Scent Description

A masculine blend of rich leather, warm spices, amber, and a touch of earthiness. With notes of cardamom, leather, jasmine sambac, amber, moss, and patchouli, this scent is a great addition to almost any collection. Inspired by Tom Ford's Ombre Leather

Very enjoyable and typical Stirling quality performance. Have a swell day !

    Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
    Super Speed/King C. Gillette day 3
    Gada Cool Mint SC
    Prep ASB
    Aqua Velva Sport AS Splash

This Gada Cool Mint is from Lebanon and it’s the cheapest cream you can find - hell, a friend of mine owns a grocery store near my house and he sells them for two bucks a tube. This cream has a lovely lemony/minty scent, it’s so concentrated that just a small dab on both cheeks gives such thick, rich lather that has good slickness, there’s a nice menthol sensation, and the skincare is perfect because of the chamomile in the cream - my skin feels not only cool, it also feels so soothed and relaxed. The Prep and the Aqua Velva Sport aftershave finished the job superbly. No complaints whatsoever about this shave - it was so BBS and enjoyable!

Have a good weekend - be well and safe!
