The HC&C GunSlinger Shave Soap lathered well with the Burma Shave Boar Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Trac II Clone and a Personna Twin Pivot Plus Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Humphrey's Witch Hazel and then Lucky Tiger After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

This Vintage Spice soap and aftershave are two treasures created by my dear brother Fernando in Johannesburg, South Africa. The scent is so beautiful - a carbon copy of the Shulton Old Spice. Man oh man, the soap’s tallow formula promotes such wonderful lather with great postshave care, the Svoboda balm from Russia is not only very moisturizing and soothing, it has a nice cooling sensation and it’s almost unscented so it doesn’t affect the wonderful scent of the Vintage Spice aftershave. Finally, a little of the Old Spice Classic cologne and to be honest I was disappointed by the scent of it because P&G really knows how to ruin a great product - why couldn’t they leave well enough alone? Anyway, a most enjoyable and excellent three pass BBS shave. Now, it’s off to take my daughter and nephew out for breakfast!

Razor : Gillette British HD Rocket Super speed- Mfg 1950's, milder range. Well built and designed super speed and gives a decent shave. Great milder razor for those who are in a hurry to get out the door to go to work. Had a close comfortable shave this morning.
Blade : Polsilver SI(5) sharp and smooth with excellent longevity.
Soap : Ogallala Bayrum with sandalwood, nice Bayrum with some clove with great lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi "Mountain lake" 24mm 2band badger. Excellent lather generator, pillow like soft tips, nice splay scrubber + great lather painter.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave :Witch hazel + Ogallala Bayrum and Sandalwood + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : or CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers= Had a close comfortable shave this morning with my Gillette British variant HD Rocket with a Polsilver.

For this shave, I compared two very different versions of the venerable R41. I shaved with the Muhle R103 on the right side of my face and the ZO 316L on the left side – I’m sure you know where this is going.
After two basic passes with the R103 (WTG and ATG), the left side was a respectable DFS. And with two very careful passes with the Chinese clone (both WTG), the right side was also DFS, with one weeper.
The Dscosmetic Z0 316L is not to be trifled with!

Yesterday evening's shave (2-12)

2nd shave with The Dutch Soap Company test soap.



Unlike the first time when I let the soap bloom and did a face lather, this time no blooming and bowl lathering in stead.

Prep: hot shower
Razor : Schick Model L
Blade(s) : Schick II
Soap : Dutch Soap Company
Brush : badger
Lather : bowl lather
Shave : 2 pass + touch-ups
Post : cold water rinse / cedar witch hazel
Result : dfs

The soap needed a bit of work, but the lather felt rich and creamy. Still no idea how to describe the (nice) scent. A bit of irritation after the shave, but nothing a bit of witch hazel couldn't manage.

The irritation might be due to the age of the blade(s), which I put in the razor last January 1st. Although I have no problems when I have my usual shave with shaving oil. Next time I will use a different razor with a brand new blade. See what happens.

Don’t let the name “Sottozero” fool you because although the word means “below zero” in Italian this stuff is far from being a face freezer. In fact it’s less mentholated than Proraso Green. It’s an Italian soft soap with a nice minty scent, it gives very good lather but it lacks in slickness and the skincare is pretty decent I guess, but I have so many better soaps. The Prep took great care of my postshave needs, and do I ever LOVE the scent of the Aqua Velva Sport aftershave as well as its icy cold feeling. Three passes did the job for me - another terrific BBS shave.
