    Astra Superior Stainless (4)
    Omega boar
    HTGAM Cavendish soap

    Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve AS

Had some good shaves while out of town this week due to some lucky finds at antique stores and enjoyed glancing through everyone else's Christmas week SOTD's last night and this morning.

Shave number 4 with this Astra SS blade and another very fine 2 pass shave. This blade seems to have gotten better with each shave and I'm anxious to finish a 5 shave test and move on to the Astra SP which is my next test blade. Today marks the first time I've used any brush other than my trusty VDH boar and I enjoyed it thoroughly (thanks Lyndon). First time with the HTGAM and produced a pretty good lather for my first try considering I was using different equipment. Great pipe tobacco scent that just begged to be paired with a splash of Special Reserve.

Ten shaves: Gillette adjustable FatBoy day 4

Prep: warm face wash with Shea moisture three butters scrub
    Soap: Tabac
    Brush: HIS
Razor: Gillette FatBoy set at three
Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge Yellow
    Post: cold water rinse
    AS: Krampert's Finest Frostbite

DFS. The razor moved easily through my face lathered Tabac, and the shave felt very nice and smooth. I took some advice I got from a friend and made sure the doors were closed properly and the blade was aligned correctly. The razor behaved well and I think I found the right angle, which is rather different from the one I use with my Maggard.
An hour later, I felt some burn on my neck, so I'll apply some balm before heading out to the hockey game.

I was in the mood for some menthol and peppermint zing this morning.
~ Ingram shaving cream bowl lathered with a high loft badger brush.
~ Maggard MR3 with a Perma Sharp blade (3 or 4) weighted with BB's. I did two passes, WTG/ATG with the BB's and I think it really took away from the proper balance on this razor so I quickly dumped them out for one more pass ATG. Much better! I think for now, I'll leave it hollow.
~ Clinique moisturizer followed by Barbasol after shave, Brisk scent for the face. C.O. Bigelow Mentha body lotion for well, the body.

Prep: Warm shower, Corn Huskers Lotion
    Razor: Weber PH
    Blade: Voskhod (3)
Cream: Stirling Margaritas in the Arctic
    Brush: Semogue 830
Post: Master Astringent, Corn Huskers Lotion
    Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman

Excellent shave. First tine using the Margaritas in the Arctic. Holy cow, that stuff is COLD! I could not believe how cold it made my face. When I did my cold water rinse after the shave, it was like dunking my face in a bucket of ice water.

I haven't cut my face in at least 25 years until today. We were in a hurry getting ready to leave town. My wife and I were talking and I had a momentary lapse of concentration. I dragged my razor left to right across my chin and opened up about a 1/2 inch cut. It bled like a stuck pig. It took a little while to make the bleeding stop. Lesson learned.

    Have a great day!

Today's shave and my first time using an open comb razor.

Prep: washed my face with warm water and Cremo Face Wash.
    Brush: Turkish #6 Brush.
    Razor: Gillette Ball End New?
    Blade: Personna Lab.
    Soap: Palmolive stick.
Post: cold water rinse, Captain's Choice Bay Rum.

Well the open comb seemed to do a good job at removing stubble. The feedback from the razor was pretty loud. I consider this razor to be on the mild side. 2 passes WTG got me a DFS shave. I hadn't used my Palmolive stick for a few months and decided to break it out. I should use it more often because it's a very underrated soap. The CC Bay Rum did a good job at closing my pores and tightening my skin.

    Prep: shower, homemade pso
    Lather: Proraso red cream
    Brush: HIS synthethic
    Razor: Ever ready shovelhead
    Blade: GEM stainless

I was interrupted so i only did one pass WTG but it was still good. I was having trouble with the Proraso and getting the right water to cream ratio. This time I succeeded by not drowning the cream with water. The result was a very creamy thick luxurious lather more moisturizing than the Arko I regularly use. It had so much protection i barely, just barely felt the blade. Zero irritation shave today.

    Prep: hot towel
    Razor: WW2 Gillette Khaki
    Blade: Merkur (day 1)
    Brush: Wilkinson Sword
    Soap: Proraso white tub
    Passes: 3 (WTG x2, XTG)
    Post: cold water, alum

I may have found a new friend with the Gillette/Merkur combination. The Merkur had provided a smooth close shave before, but when loaded in the Gillette I didn't have to work for the shave. My face is pretty dry, the alum might not have been the best choice for a post shave, especially one as quick as I just had. All in all a nice shave with minimal room for improvement!
